Yet another teacher rant

I must of missed something. I think dkrause was responding to MariAnne and not to the OP.

I really don't see the "Parent Bash" in what she wrote. I though it was quite sensible. As a parent and a teacher too, I try to see both sides of the story when my daughter comes to me with something. It is hard to keep the parent as a lioness in check sometimes and I do the 'not my daughter' thing but a lot of times, when I check with the teacher, I agree with the teacher's actions. I try very hard to abide by the teacher's rules, even if it's not the way I would have handle things. In school, the teacher is the boss.

dkrause,What a completely negative and insulting post. I am sorry, but "worst pieces of writing I have ever seen in my life".... Ummm, yeah right. It is always lame when somebody cannot form a coherant disagreement in a debate, so they resort to attacking things like spelling, grammer, and semantics.Nowhere did the OP brag about their own education. (she did mention it, once, in the follow-up post. One small mention out of two lengthy posts.) She has clearly experienced many valid issues with her sons educators. You say to get both sides of the issue, yet, obviously, as a teacher, it looks like you didn't even bother to take the time to read the post correctly before you issued a huge insulting 'Parent Bash' in response??? There is a HUGE difference between a parent in mama-lioness mode and a professional teacher. What might be expected or tolerated from the former is completely unacceptable from the latter. Ohhhh, well, maybe not.

To the OP, as I stopped reading the posts when they got nasty:

Going out on a limb here, but eighth grade is a very sensitive age for both boys and girls. Hormones are a flyin'. Oftentimes things said are blown way out of proportion. Heck, don't you see this at home? Laughing, crying, yelling, hugging, all in a matter of 5 minutes...

Anyhow, maybe the teachers don't intend to be mean, spiteful, or hurtful, when they make these comments. Sometimes the cold, hard truth hurts. If homework isn't done, grades will go down, and college enrollment can be affected.

I hope everything is working out for you daughter. Having a high fever like that is scary to any parent, and you were absolutely right to keep her home!

Hey everyone... a heads-up here. Clearly we all need to take advanced courses in spelling, writing, language, semantics, online jargon, composition, etc.. etc.. etc.. just to able to DIS....

Most laws would definately make a school able to retain a child for too many 'unexcused' absenses. I would see NO reason to make a child repeat an entire year due to 'excused' medical absences, as long as they were able to make up the work and to earn passing grades.

In my school, you would either end up in non credit status and end up in summer school, parents would end up in court, or the child would fail classes and would not have enough credits to graduate on time.

Irregardless of whether one should be held back because of medical absences, going on vacation on top of those medical absences would not be look upon as a good thing.

I apologize for offending anyone. I was responding to the post that was quoted. I was not parent bashing or teacher defending. I do believe the post I quoted was over the top.

Outta here. Have a nice weekend all.

There is a small percentage of losers in every profession, I don't understand why so many good teachers waste their time defending the actions of a few.

If an accountant did a terrible job and made a major mess of someones taxes, and then was condescending and rude to coworkers and clients, nobody would be defending them and saying that it's a stressful job so we should overlook the mistakes.

All you good teachers out there, thank you. Keep doing the good work you do.

Beautifully said, thank you! :goodvibes

Wishing....

grammer is spelled grammar
definate is spelled definite
superintendant is spelled superintendent
I don't have time to address the use of apostrophe

Sorry...I'm just a teacher resorting to what I know :rotfl2: :thumbsup2
