I have always read that in the bars with the adult entertainment at night they allow smoking, so DH and I have never gone to these shows.

Last month we sailed with friends who did go to the shows and they said the smokers had to sit in the back area of the room. Is this true?

Are smokers seated in a different area of the room? Just how bad is the smoke in these rooms?

Thanks,
DJ

There are designated smoking and non-smoking sections in the nightclub rooms. Unfortunately, in Rockin' Bar D, the smoking area extends across the entire back of the room, and the ventillation is such that the smoke spreads throughout the room.

As you sit further from the smoking area, you'll get less second-hand smoke. In Rockin' Bar D, I could tolerate the air for an hour if I sat near the wall to the left of the stage. It wasn't the best view of the shows, but at least I didn't have to skip the shows entirely.

Comparing our Spring 2002 and Spring 2004 cruises, there were far fewer people smoking in the nightclubs in 2004. I don't know if we were just lucky, or if this is a trend.

By the way, you may come to the entrance to Rockin' Bar D and see that the room is extremely smokey. That's because they use theatrical smoke during some events. (I really don't know why, but somebody at DCL must think it adds to the atmosphere.) So don't assume that a smokey room always means a cloud of cigarette smoke.

Thanks!

Maybe I can get DH to go for a little while for one of the adult shows if we sit near the door. Then we could leave when it gets too bad.

Just my two cents for what it's worth. I think smoking should be banned in all the clubs. There's no reason why someone who smokes (and I smoked for many years including our last trip on the Magic) can't step out on deck to have a cigarette. There are many people who are extremely allergic to smoke and they should be allowed to use the clubs too. Stepping outside is no big deal.

I'd be more than willing to do so, if I could get a promise from all the parents of crying/screaming children to do the same when they start acting up. I've seen way too much of that. I find them much more annoying than any smoker.

That's what we do.
The ventilation is terrible!

If smoking is permitted, I ain't goin'. I've had more than enough second-hand smoke for one lifetime, and I don't want any more.

It sounds like now that Wonder has been through drydock, there aren't any nonsmoking clubs left. Am I right?

The Promenade Lounge on both ships is non-smoking, all the time.

The Cove Cafe on the Magic has a full bar; it's non-smoking all the time too, but I wouldn't call it a club. I expect the same will true for the new Cove Cafe on the Wonder.

They may be more "annoying" to you but crying kids won't kill you where as your second hand smoke can kill me!!

Yes, crying/screaming children are annoying, but being subjected to that annoyance won't increase your risk of getting lung cancer or some other deadly disease. Second hand smoke to me is primarily a health issue, and in that respect, your analogy is completely meaningless.

I find the fact that smoking is allowed in the clubs on board so disturbing. In CT smoking is banned in all clubs & resteraunts now, it is the law. I recently lost my dad at age 54 to esphegeal cancer. It was caused by years of cigarette smoking. My kids know that cigarette smoking took their Grampa from them. I hate the thought that there are places for families on the ship that are filled with cigarette smoking. From a child's perspective it seems so obvious, why do people do something that not only harms themselves but all those around them? I would rather stay out of those places than try to explain it to them. The least Disney could do is offer a smoke free night club on board!! Sorry, I just had to vent. I don't want to get flamed. I obviously have strong feelings about this. I miss my dad...

Then we're all lucky that second hand smoke doesn't kill. All of the studies that "proclaim" negative effects to second hand smoke, have been debunked by serious science. The EPA study that ALL of the "second hand smoke kills" propaganda cites has been discredited by numerous other studies. Even the EPA has admitted that the study was "bad science."

So, it may be annoying, but it won't kill you, and its my right.

OK Ferret-
Does smoking cause disease in those who smoke? YES

Is the smoke that goes down a smoker's throat to cause that disease the same smoke that I inhale as second hand smoke? YES

It doesn't take a rocket scientist, or any kind of study, to convince me that second hand smoke is not healthy for me, my family, or anyone else.

It is certainly not your right to expose me or my family to unhealthy conditions because of your desire to smoke. If you want to poison yourself, fine, but don't poison others who don't want to go with you. (Oh, and by the way, would you mind paying extra for your health insurance, so that I and other non-smokers don't have to subsidize the cost ot treating those with smoking-related diseases?)

To you first, yep, it can, if the person doesn't smoke in moderation. So can drinking in those who drink, eating in those who eat, etc.

The smoke that goes down my throat isn't the same smoke that you inhale as second hand smoke. It doesn't have the nicotine or the tar (which are the disease-causing agents). Those are absorbed by me when I inhale, not by you when you are near me.

And I'm not a rocket scientist. I just don't believe everything I see on TV or read in a popular magazine.

However it is his right to smoke in places that permit smoking. Obviously DCL has made a conscious decision that it is in their better economic interest to permit smoking in certain areas. If you don't like their policies, complain to them or patronize another company whose policies you do like.

By the way, he has also paid extra for his health insurance through the excise taxes and sales tax imposed directly on the purchase along with the income taxes for all of those who have jobs because there is a cigarette industry as well as the corporate income taxes on the manufacturers as well as the multi-billion dollar settlement the manufacturers entered into and funded through price increases.

Which clubs on the magic allow smoking?

I've always been sensative to cigarrette smoke but also just found out I have asthma. Simply put I'm going to have to avoid these clubs :( Not going to get into the allow smoking or not debate but do intend to avoid at all opportunities. Someone please let me know.

I saw someone complaining about screaming kids....its a DISNEY CRUISE!! There are going to be kids and some screaming ones at that . (And no I don't have kids but know that a disney cruise is gonna have them!! Come on.. go on another cruise line if the kiddos are that much of a bother...sheesh...)

I thought I heard everything till that one...screaming kids vs smoking rights.

wow...this is getting crazy....come on guys....think happy...:)

ex-smoker here with a father battling lung cancer due to smoking...without inhaling no less....for many many years. I see both points of view.....everyone is right in my eyes.....we all have a right to go or not go.....but why argue about it?

:(

Actually, there WON'T be any crying screaming kids in the adult clubs...if they try, they are asked to leave because Disney enforces the adult areas.
Personally, I think that smoking should be banned during the shows in the clubs. Allow it at other times, but don't tell me smokers can't hold off for an hour during showtimes. You can smoke in the theaters, so the clubs should be the same.
And BTW, I have no problem with smoking and non-smoking sections when they are properly separated, but in Wavebands you can be in "non-smoking" with a smoking table literally right behind you, blowing smoke in your hair.

Yes crying/screaming children are annoying. And yes I can promise you I would take mine out if that happened.

If they are crying or screaming there is a reason and the parent should try and care for it then return when the child is calmed down.

Just my two bits....from a mom of a 12 y/o and 4 y/o twins.

Maybe I'm an eternal optimist, but can we please keep this confined to answering the question that was asked?

Your cooperation is appreciated. Thanks!
