I have been reading a lot on these boards and learned a quite deal!! Thanks to everyone. We put our deposit down last week, made reservations and have the papers signed and ready to go out tomorrow!!

ANOTHER QUESTION::

I noticed a great deal of talk about the use years. I was assigned a December use year. Is this good?? Does it really matter?? Whats the big deal??? Should I have requested differently??

Sorry if the answer is obvious but I am still trying to understand all of this. Does the use year month directly correlate to when you vacation most??And are some better than others??

Thank you ahead of time!!

You use year is important in that it determines your important banking deadlines.

The general feeling here is that you should select a use year that is just prior to when you usually visit your resort. Then, if you need to cancel your reservation for some reason you will have many months in which to reschedule during that year.

If your usual vacation time falls late in your use year...say September for you...your use year is drawing to an end very shortly. If you had to cancel your September reservation, your options would be somewhat limited.

We have a February use year and usually vacation in February, March or April and then again in September or October. This has worked well for us.

Your guide should have explained use years to you. It's still not too late to change if necessary. You would need to complete new paperwork, but it's best to get it right the first time.

Good luck...

The group of DVC users splits on the issue of whether use year is important or not. I think a lot depends upon when you vacation. If you always vacation in December and June, then a Dec use year would be great. If you had to cancel those Dec. ressies, and you had borrowed those points from next year, then you have a whole year to take another vacation. For me, vacationing in Dec on borrowed points with a Feb use year would be a terrible idea, but vacationing in March or April would make more sense. You just have to decide when you want to vacation, and give yourself time after that before your points expire. You don't EVER want that to happen.

Thanks for the info. I do understand thats when the points are re distributed but my guide did not tell me I had a choice. She just stated December would be it. I figured that to be logical (calender year) It wasnt till reading more posts and receiving my packet that I realized everyone is different.

We usually vacation in May and again in september. What would be the best for my situation?? If i can still change from December or maybe thats fine??

panfan,
Did you take advantage of Magical Beginnings on your purchase? December might be the only use year left for MB purchases; maybe that's why your guide didn't give you any other options for use years.

With your vacation pattern February, March, or April may work better.
