Just got back from Pop a couple hours ago. I'm a bit wired at the moment so I thought I'd post my review of Pop while it's still fresh in my memory (my memory's going pretty quickly these days and I only just turned thirty last month!).

We checked in about 1pm last Sunday. Didn't wait at all, just walked to the line and a CM called us right over. Took all of a couple minutes to check us in. We had faxed our requests a couple days ago and it looked like everything was perfect. When we got to our room (50's buiding C, third floor, room 3303, overlooking the bowling pin pool), it looked exactly right. King bed, in the building we wanted. Then DH peeked into the bathroom and saw it was handicap accessible (i.e. no tub, open showering design with bench). Darn! So close but yet so far. With a 2-year old we needed a tub for baths, and I felt bad that we could be taking a room from someone who needs handicap accessibility when we don't need it ourselves. Just an FYI, we had requested a king typical, not handicap. So, we had to switch rooms.

Ended up on the same floor, but around the corner, with double beds as no king typicals were available. We were now facing the lake, which was fine with me as those rooms are quieter. It only took us a minute to switch rooms, but because we co-sleep, the image of that huge king bed haunted me for the rest of the week. Usually at around 2am when Kate was kicking me full in the face and I was hanging half off the bed.

Anyway, they moved our small amount of luggage while we headed to DTD. All week mousekeeping was fine, made the beds, emptied the garbage and left towels. No towel animals, though we left a decent tip every day.

The toilets are loud, yes, but you get used to them. I never heard our neighbors, except sometimes in the a.m. you could just hear the shower running.

We only ate one meal at Pop, except for a few snacks. I had some chicken fingers that are just like those all over Disney, and DH had grilled chicken nachos, a special request the cooks made up for him. We mostly just grab snacks at Pop and we think the food is just fine for the most part.

The buses were great for the most part. We never had to wait too long for one to arrive. I do wish Disney would work out something better though. What?, I have no idea, but I just think they could come up with *something* better. Having to stand for 15-20 minutes sometimes is not much fun, though I know the alternatives also have their downsides. We had our stroller this year too, which didn't help. I hated having to break down the stroller and find a place for it on a crowded bus, but loved having Kate's own reclining stroller in the parks and walking to and from the buses. Catch-22 I guess. At least we won't need to bring it next year as Kate will be old enought to walk those distances and we'll just do the rental thing.

And now, the one complaint:

There were packs of prepubescent Pop Warner cheerleaders and footballers all over the darn place. They took over the pools and the walkways. DH went down to the pool one day and came back about 10 minutes later, claiming the rambunctious hooligans chased him away with their screaming and shrieking. I dunno, I don't swim.

Anyway, I had heard that the Pop Warner kids stayed at the All Stars and Riverside and maybe Caribbean Beach, not Pop Century. But they are definitely there this year, and they'll probably be there from now on, so we will never stay at Pop again this time of the year. When we stayed at Pop in September, we loved it. There was just your usual mix of kids and adults and that was great. But with all of these young teens roaming around, it's just not as nice.

But you know, I'm pretty intolerant of kids that age, they just bug me for some reason, so if they don't bother you then you'll probably be just fine. I have to admit I had several un-Disney thoughts when I saw those hordes and I don't like having those thoughts! :guilty: So we'll stay here at another time of the year, or switch to Coronado Springs if we come back during Pop Warner in the future.

I just had to laugh at the comment "I'm pretty intolerant of kids that age", I was too until mine got to that age. My mom was right, I am having children just like I was.LOL
Oh , and my youngest is 3yr. and we are surely bringing our own stroller, just can't beat those naps in the recliner while the rest of us enjoy the park. Shoot, I wish they made one big enough for my 7 yr. old.

It's odd to hear about the groups - I too have always believed that they put the large groups at the All-Stars.

As to the king rooms, it should be noted that there are no "typical" king rooms at Pop - all king rooms are handicapped accessable.

Glad you had a good time - Pop is easily my favorite resort for so many reasons, and it beats the heck out of All-Stars any day of the week. Unless I was getting a room in the tower at the Contemporary or concierge in the Grand Floridian, Pop is my home away from home at WDW.

There was a diagram somewhere on this site that showed king beds with handicap accessibility and king beds without. That was what I based my request on. Maybe they had it wrong? When I went to change rooms and mentioned the king with tub, the CM didn't correct me as she tried to find us a new room so I don't know.

And yeah, I too was surprised to see the cheerleaders and footballers. But you could easily tell who they were. The cheerleaders traveled in packs, had their hair 'done', did spontaneous cheers, often wore matching t-shirts, and often had 'cheer' written on their butts in large letters. The footballers were the same without the cheers or 'done' hair:) And we rode the bus back to Pop on the last day with two cheer moms who talked all the way back about the competitions and how Disney was closing MGM early that night and opening it especially for them. I would think that if they were at Pop this year than chances are they will be there next year.

And yeah, I really can't stand kids that age. I couldn't stand *myself* or my friends at that age! It was just the most awkward and embarrassing age. I'll probably lock Kate in her room from about age 9 to 12

Kate only slept in the stroller one time where we needed to recline it, so it's just not worth it to us to lug that thing around again next year. She didn't want to sit in it most of the time anyway (though it made a good package carrier). We'll just schedule a nap at the hotel in the afternoon like we did this year, before we park hop. It worked out perfectly and we won't have to worry about her stroller. :cool1:

I forget the exact numbers, but about half of the king rooms are typical, and the other half are accessible.

They get put at Pop when the All-Stars are fill up.

My run in with them was at Riverside. Apparently, this group of cheerleaders didn't know what an inside voice was. They weren't cheering, just yelling back and forth to each other and screaming. On an enclosed bus, with that 3 feet away from me, I ended up with a major headache fast. The parents seemed used to the screaming, and didn't say a word.

Thanks for the info on the king rooms Tyler, I was beginning to think perhaps I was going crazy:) While there were no cheerleaders screaming on our bus rides, they were screaming to each other along the walkways and in the pools. Sorry you met up with the screamers on your bus, where it's impossible to get away from them until you reach your destination:(

LOL, thankfully I had a fast bus. I think we might have made record time! LOL

It's packs of all kids that age! I teach Middle School and am pretty imune to that age kids but I definatly wouldn't want to run into that on my vacation either.

Just got back today from four nights at WL followed by four nights at Pop. We were in the 70's building, and it was quieter than our stay at WL. Funny how different experiences can be for the same period of time.

Our room was very quiet, as was the building we were in (50's building C), our room was facing the lake, it was just the pools and the walkways where we saw the packs of kids. But honestly, that was enough to turn me off of ever staying at a value resort during Pop Warner again. But hey, that gives me an excuse to go moderate next time! Woohoo!

I too, have just returned from a week (12/3-12/11) at Pop Century. We had a great room by the Mickey telephone. Great room, Great weather, but I will NEVER again go to WDW during Pop Warner/Cheerleader week!!! the boys from the football teams were no problem, but the cheerleaders were out of control!!!! in every park, every dark ride, the shrieking was unbelievable. they really could have woken the dead at Haunted Mansion!!! they continually screamed, yelled, cut in line, walked across the roads with arms linked (on the playground in my day, it was called "we don't stop for no body"), knocking over small kids watching shows, etc. their chaperones apparently were non- existent, just didn't care, or were part of the same bad behavior. we were told that Pop got about 150 kids overflow from All stars. as we were leaving, the luggage guys told us that they(the hotel) had gotten so many complaints, that 35-40 of them were kicked off the premises. Disney should re-think hosting a cheerleading event of this size. Tho I don't know if ANYONE could handle that many tweenagers all in one place!!!

You know, your post just jogged a memory from the recesses of my mind. My DH was going to get some laundry out of the dryer for me one night last week in the 50's laundry room and he said he saw about 30 'Disney cops' as he called them. He said they seemed to be taking care of some disturbance, but he couldn't really see what was going on and didn't want to be a snoop so I don't know just what they were dealing with but maybe what the CM told you explains it. They might have been kicking some of the kids/families out. Interesting, and rather pathetic of the families if it's so!

Cheshirekate, yup that was probably when the "eviction" occurred. I was told at check-in that the cheerleaders were in the 50's section. Thankfully i was in the 70's. (Many thanks to the cast member who put me there!!!). I really did enjoy the hotel, in spite of all the commotion caused by the cheerleaders.

HEY!!!! Don't make fun of the Pop Warner cheerleaders!!! I live with FOUR of them!!! (I also coach) Although I would NEVER allow my girls to wonder around without adult supervision, I know plenty of parents let their children (boys AND girls) do what ever they want, as long as they are away from them and out of their hair! It's a shame, because these are the children that will eventually get into "real" trouble down the road.

Just wanted you to know that not ALL cheerleaders are rude and obnoxious. :cheer2:

I know that DisneyFreakJackie (great name, btw). I teach a Sunday school class of kids that age and while it isn't without its challanges, they are good kids when supervised correctly. I just came back from a WDW trip and missed my class while I was gone. However, there would have been trouble had they behaved like a lot of posters here are describing. What were their chaperones thinking?

Just be careful... I ran into Pop Warner at Riverside, and I think they also went to Caribbean. Coronado might be a safe bet, though.

Thanks Tyler, Coronado is actually my plan, hopefully it will work out nicely:)

When I read here that POP Warner would be at POP I called CRO the day before I left and was put through to customer service who offered to change my resort - first she checked on where the POP Warner overflow was staying and here's what she said:

AllStars most
then POP
then PO FQ & Riverside
and a few in Martinque at CBR!!

No point in moving - they are everywhere I'd want to stay! We had a good laugh and she called POP to arrange a room location - she was terrific! She also told me that all Disney Resorts welcome groups.

Check-in took no time, no line ever during our stay 12/9-12/15. CM did tell me my room # before he realized it was not ready so I walked over to see the location. POP Warner seemed to be all over the 50's and I was worried about noise and glad I had no intention of using the Pool.

It was very quiet on the Lake side (4th fl) and only heard girls squealing the night before they left (in building 2), although I did notice how quiet the resort was after they left on the 11th - even that morning was so much quieter. Less activity going on in the 50's!

We had a great stay even tho we had serious cleanliness issues with the room - it was so dirty, filth in the bathroom I would not post - that they sent up the housekeeping manager. He was very nice, but found the condition of the room disturbing. He promised to have it thoroughly cleaned while I was at MVMCP and that he would move me to any resort I wanted if I was not satisfied. The place was practically sparkling when I got back after midnight. Brand new blankets on the bed (he told me they'd be new). He had our sheets changed everyday, had the linen put through some special wash, as well as the comforters.

I would say to anyone who has a problem to call and nicely explain - they definitely went out of the way to be sure the room was properly cleaned and I was happy to remain at the POP. It was a terrific stay.

Oh, also loved the Christmas decorations!

By the way,Tyler, thank you so much for your help before I left!
