Yet Another Pal Mickey Question

Are the "beacons" that activate Pal Mickey only in the parks? Are there any at the Disney hotels or Downtown Disney?

I'd like to add a question of my own. If you rent PM and then decide to buy, do you get a new one, or do you keep the rental?

I believe that renting him is around $8 per day with a $60 deposit. He is $60 brand new. If you rent him and don't return hin you just paid $68 for a used PM. When I inquired about him being clean, I was told that they are sanatized. The CM that I spoke to said that the inner workings can be removed and he is washable. We are considering getting one while there in April.~KPmom

To rent PAL Mickey it is $8 day. To purchase it is $60. You put a $60 deposit down, and if you choose to keep it, (they will issue a new one in a box) they will keep the deposit. If not, they will refund you the difference of days rented vs deposit. Be prepared to keep the little guy though. We're taking our PM back this June. We just loved him!

PM gives all kinds of info! The part that most sticks out to me was all the info he gave in WS at Epcot. As you pass by the various pavillions, he would give interesting tidbits of information about the host country. He would give similar tips/information/trivia about other rides and attractions as you passed by them. My DD's 4 and 2 absolutely loved their PM--Mom and Dad thinks he's pretty neat too!

We rented a Pal Mickey for my DD at AK last July.
The only problem with him is that Mickey is a little hard to understand so you must hold him up to your ear to hear what he has to say. Does anyone know if Pal Mickey has been upgraded since last July? If so, we may consider a purchase on our ucoming trip.
