Let me check to see if I have this right....
We can collect fastpasses all day long, as our ride times are reached or 2 hours pass, right? And we don't HAVE to use them at the specified time on the pass, but they can be used anytime after that time, correct? So, in theory, one may collect several fastpasses throughout the morning for rides one intends to ride in the later afternoon.
Now, imagine we go, and collect FP's during the morning for Buzz, Autopia, BTMRR, etc...and then my kids poop out and don't want to do these rides later in the day - what can we do with the FP's? Is it acceptable to find some poor people waiting in the regular lines and give our FP's to them?

i'd pretty much say yes to all of that

Ok good. With 3 little kids, I have several contingency plans for the afternoons, and if they don't cooperate with my plans, we will have tons of extra FP's we won't use. Perhaps I can please the Karma gods by passing some of them on!:goodvibes

Yes... but I've found people are suspicious of the free fastpasses and doubt that they can use them that late.

I’ve wondered if all the fastpasses I give away get used.

We also keep some for our son to play ‘Disneyland’ with for back home.

we've been given fastpasses many times. and we've also given ours away. it's also a nice gesture.

We've done the same and I agree about it being a nice gesture -- it's like getting dreamed when you least expect it. There's something about making a complete stranger happy by doing the unexpected that is really special. (And it's not something that one encounters a lot of in the "real" world, either!) I've never had a person refuse to take the FPs. They've always responded very happily. If someone refused it or looked unsure about using it, I would simply find some other soul to give it to.:)

We give ours away if we can't use them or decide we don't want to ride the ride. At Space Mtn once our kids wanted to ride but DBF and I decided not to, we walked them up with their fastpasses and gave ours to 2 kids walking up to the "regular" line. The kids were super happy. We've also just given them away when we needed to leave, we just walk up and hand them off. We almost never use our FP's in the time window indicated on the pass, most of the time when we give them away they are "past due" and the recipients will ask, we assure them they will be accepted and off they go. If they are really hesitant we ask the CM monitoring the line and they are told to "go ahead" and they thank us profusely.
So, the answer to your questions is yes.....
