We typically go during September but due to circumstances are thinking about going end of May. How bad are the crowds Memorial Day week? Thinking about arriving Memorial Day and staying until Sunday. Do the crowds typically thin out after Monday?
Thanks guys

There is some speculation that the new Pandora section of Animal Kingdom might open then. If so, I would expect some crowd issues.

No, this is the start of summer season and it jumps up on memoroial day and keeps climbing as more and more schools get out. Schools are already getting out by memorial day so it's the start of summer crowds but not the peak..

Now, it happens to be the same week that disboards turns 20 so pete and the group are planning to do some special things during that week so that also means there will be lots of disers joining you that week.. :) It's not a change the crowd amount of people but might be somethign that interests you.

And if Disney throws any last-minute mishigas into the works as it sometimes does, like another 24-hour parks event, it will be absolutely nuts that weekend.

I would love a 24 hour pandora opening event :) although there isn't enough at AK they could keep opened to make it worth while but i'll pay for an after hours premiere event like they just did at DL for MSEP returning.

They could run the boring Tree of Life Awakening repeatedly and turn it into a sleep-over event. :rolleyes1

Yes, I was afraid thats when the crowds started ramping up. Also with all the speculation about Pandora I am expecting worst case scenario. We have been spoiled with lower than average crowds so not looking forward to that aspect, but hey, we will be in Disney

Summer it's like night and day difference.. when it hit's it'll go from that pleasant to "oh yeah, it's summer again" crowd.

I have a question....as long as we are on the "crowd subject"....I have been reading completely conflicting articles and post. One will say "the crowds are out of control"..."Disney will always be crowded" and next I see an article saying "attendance is down"..."Disney isn't meeting its quotas" "visit in 2017 because park attendance is expected to be down..." etc....Soo what's the deal? Anyone know?....And I do know the time you visit plays a part in this...but in general...?

On both coasts, attendance was down because Disney managed the pricing and blockouts of tickets and annual passes to attempt to uncrowned the parks on peak days. Prices rose a lot higher in Anaheim than in Orlando, but the effect was felt in both places. So the peak of the peak wasn't as painful as usual. However, what used to be the slow days and slow times of the year are no longer slow like they used to be. So in other words, there's no more really slow time, which might be making some observers say that Disney is always crowded. I would say it's always busy instead. But the super busiest times are not as bad as they used to be because of the pricing changes and blockouts.

Thank You :)

This is when we are going again this year as it is the only time we can go and I like to hit it right at the start of summer.

We went over Mem Day 2 years ago and crowds were pretty bad, but we had a lovely time. Oh, and it was Star Wars weekends and we still managed to do HS.

With a good plan, decent FP+ reservations you'll be fine.

My kids last day of school is the Friday before Memorial day, and lots of other locals are getting out of school that week as well. As Siver Pass holders, we are getting in our last licks before Summer Blackout which starts 6/5. I am sure that my family is not the only ones doing this.

I went the 19-25 May in 2016. I felt it was more crowded than when we went at the end of July! We ended up leaving MK before 1pm one day because it was just a sea of people and we didn't want to fight the crowds (and I was using crowd calendars to pick 'best' parks to attend).
