We have been going back and forth on trying to decide if we should purchase trip insurance through Disney for our upcoming trip in August.
Part of me would like the comfort of having it, yet for 354.00?!

Do you purchase the trip insurance? Please tell us WHY or WHY NOT! Thanks!

we prefer no insurance. a vacation is a vacation so to speak. i know that in talking to others about FL in aug - hurricane season - kind of risky maybe - but we are going no matter what! when the kids were 10 years younger may be we should have but again we go no matter what. never was a problem. WL 8/2 to 8/9/06. :sunny: :sunny: pirate:

Hi! I've never been one to purchase insurance either (well, my parents anyway) but for our upcoming trip at the end of Sept I called last night to add the insurance on. I figure 1) it is hurricane season --- although I'd want to go no matter what I'd rather not go in the height of a hurricane if I can avoid it, plus if you get delayed coming home (that I wouldn't mind) they provide up to $200 a day of accomidations, and 2) my grandmother has cancer and God forbid she gets sick or is in the hospital during our trip, I'd like the option to cancel and get the majority of my money back.

Like I said, it's not something we've added to our package on a regular basis but it's does make me feel safer knowing we have it.

The CM told me that it is $59 per person and you can add it within 14 days of making your reservartion.

You were told that you can only add it within 14 days of making your reservation? Oh no! We were told on several occasions we could add it at anytime before our trip was paid in full. hmmm??

We don't purchase the trip insurance for our Disney trips. The cancellation fee is $200 and the insurance is $119. If there is a hurricane and our flight doesn't take off, we get credit from the airline.

We did purchase insurance for our trip to Mexico this summer. We wanted the medical insurance and our hotel is non-refundable (2 rooms for 6 nights). I was also told that even if we got airline credit, we would get our tickets refunded in cash because that credit has to be used within 1 year.

Check insuremytrip.com if you want insurance. You can compare policies from several companies and see exactly what you are getting. It's less expensive than the Disney insurance, and can be added up to 30 days after you make your reservation.

You should be able to get trip insurance much cheaper than $354 if you get it elsewhere. We're going to the USVI next month and for a trip cost of $6000 I only paid $166 through TravelGuard. IMO if I were traveling during hurricane season and had a significant amount of $$ tied up in NON-REFUNDABLE expenses I would buy trip insurance - it's a small price to pay for peace of mind. If you can rebook at the last minure without penalty or a minor penalty I wouldn't bother.
