:yay: Yes, it is true! I'm hoping to get your opinion on the best moderate resort to stay at. We are a family of 3, and I'm traveling with a disabled spouse (in wheelchair). I look forward to hearing from you and reading your details. Many, many thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

My son is also in a wheelchair and we really like port orleans fq. its small and everything is very easy to get to... cbr and csr are very big and spread out... Next summer we are trying port orleans riverside.... hope this helps..

I've only stayed at the Caribbean Beach as far as a moderate resort. We loved it. The rooms are also a bit larger than the other moderates, as it was the first one built. I would simply request a building closer to the food court or themed pool if you were concerned about it being too spread out. There are others that prefer a more secluded "island" which may feel a bit more private. The resort is divided up into different clusters that are referred to as islands. We liked Trinidad North. It was also one of the first bus stops in the resort so it wasn't crowded. We really liked the options at the food court at this resort.
I have visited the POR and it appears to be a lovely resort, and I do like that depending on the time of year, you have the option of taking the water launch to Downtown Disney..I think that's a plus.
As far as Coronado Springs..we visited there and at lunch. I found this resort to be more for business travelers..as far as moderates go. It is the only moderate with a convention center. In fact during our visit there were several companies and their employees there. I did not like the food court AT ALL. It isn't a food court..it's sort of half food court/half table service..it was wierd, and we weren't crazy about the food either. Just my opinion.

We had actually stayed at Coronado and the stay was bad. That's why I'm doing this very unscientific poll to see where more experienced families have enjoyed going. I sure appreciate your time and am going to look into the Carribean Beach. Were you able to walk to the EPCOT park?

I would reccommend POFQ. I was really impressed when we visited there this past trip. It is compact, quiet, and nicely themed. Buses stop here first before POR, too. Only drawback that I can think of is no sit down restaurant, but we ate at the food court many times ( ours was closed for rehab ), and it was fine.

You cannot walk to any of the parks from any of the Moderate Resorts. You must be thinking about the Beach Club Resort, it is right at Epcot's back entrance.

I can't tell you about any of the Moderate resorts as far as a stay goes, we find the Value and Deluxe Resorts better for my mom and I who use ECV's

You might want to consider checking out the Disabilities Board, there is a wealth of great info over there and they can answer all of your questions with expert answers. There is also a thread about accessible rooms.

No wheelchair here but a stroller. POR had an elevator in our building, nottoo much walking if you are in a close building and beautiful grounds.

The disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of the board has a section about resorts - including a description about the 2 types of handicapped rooms.

When making a reservation for a person in wheelchair, it is really important to be clear what exactly is needed. For example, someone may be in a wheelchair for distances, but can get around in the room just fine. That person would need to request a first floor room for medical reasons in a hotel without elevators, but would not need a handicapped room. Someone else might want a bathtub, but needs grab bars in the tub for security. They would need a handicapped room, but would not want a fully wheelchair accessible room, because those have a roll in shower.

We've stayed at all the moderates and they all have their pluses and minuses. Other than CBR, the rooms are pretty much the same, so I'd suggest looking at the other features and decor to help you decide.

PO-French Quarter is small and easy to get around, but distances might not be a problem for you because of having a wheelchair. There are elevators, but you may have to go out of your way to use them. There is a boat (wheelchair accessible that goes back and forth to DTD). The food court is small.

PO-Riverside is larger, but still pretty easy to get around. The Mansions have elevators, Alligator Bayoo does not. The food court is larger and easy to get around. The same boat goes to DTD.

CBR is the oldest moderate and has the largest rooms. None of the buildings have elevators. There are scattered beaches (for looking at, not swimming). You can't walk to any parks, but if you are at the Old Port Royale (food court) and go out in the back of that, toward the water, you can see the higher fireworks. The food court is nice. The buses can be crowded since it's a large resort, especially at the last stops.

Since you already know you aren't interested in Coronado Springs, I won't talk about it.

We loved SSR. There are several bus stops. We requested a room near the elevator and a building close to a bus stop, and got both! It is beautiful as well. :goodvibes

Thanks for your reply. You really took alot of time and we are discussing it as I type this. Having your response was like having a private tour. Thanks again!
