Yes, another AirTran question...

I loathe booking airfare. :headache: Right now we can fly out of our local airport on AirTran for $97/person. That beats SW prices which are currently either $140 or $171, plus we'd have to drive to BWI, about 90 mins. away. There are a few $119 prices on SW but they include a plane change and DH said no to that. So my question, how much is it to pay for seats on AirTran? We would like to be closer to the front (like rows 12-14). Also, is it $20/checked bag?

TIA!

It is $6 for a regular seat. I think it is $20 for a more leg room seat but you can get a seat closer to the front. It is $20 for first bag and $25 for second.

rows 12-14 are either 13.00 or 15.00 seats. This will also give you priority boarding. The seats that are behind these are 6.00. per person, per one way trip.

I fly Airtran alot. I paid 15.00 to be in Row 12. My baggage fee the last time I flew was 20.00 one way.

So based on that, flying Airtran most likely won't save you much once you add up the fees and compare them to SW and their no charge for first bags and only 10.00 per person for EBCI.

Is there any place on AirTran's website that I could look to see how much seats cost in different rows? Also, if the flight price would drop could I get a credit, like with SW, and then use that credit for the checked luggage?

I actually tried looking for individual seat fees when booking yesterday. From my experience, I think you actually have to go through the booking process and eventually they will give you the option to choose and pay for your seat. All of this is a bit of a pain in the butt, but IMO, AirTran is totally worth it!!! They're my favourite airline hands down!

On SWA you get two bags without charge.

You do have to go through the process as if you're buying to see the seat charges. On the flight I'm taking, rows 12 and 14 are $15 per seat, 15 and 16 are $13 and 17 is $6.

And, yes, if the price drops you can get a credit. Mine dropped awhile back and I'm using the difference to pay for our seats (didn't book them when I bought the tickets) as well as the checked luggage fees.

I'd see what the cost is on Airtran and Southwest once the taxes are all added in. Maybe it's because I was comparing different airports, but it seemed that the same fare could have different end totals after all the taxes/fees were included. Also, how much luggage will you be bringing? If not everyone is checking a bag, you still might see a good chunk of savings with Airtran. (And it's closer to home, maybe someone could drop you off so you don't have parking fees, not as much gas needed, etc.)

We usually fly Southwest (at an airport 4 hours away) but this year the prices just weren't as good as we've gotten in the past so we're giving AirTran a try.

Good luck with whatever you decide! :goodvibes
