I was just wondering if anyone had to provide a yellow fever vacination certificate to be granted entry into the Bahamas. I see its a requirement for certain countries? But have yet to find a list with the countries that it is mandatory.

Thx

The Bahamas is not an area where Yellow Fever vaccination is required. We just went to our travel dr., and got everything required for travel to Nassau and CC. All we got was our Dukoral oral vaccine for Traveller's Diarrhrea and a prescription for Cipro antibiotic (just in case). The vaccine is not a requirement, just us being very cautious.
You don't want to get the Yellow Fever vaccine if you don't need it, you can get a reaction to it.

You'll only be in Nassau for a a few hours, maybe 10 at the most. Its a nice little developed island. The hilly, narrow roads are way worse than any thought of yellow fever, which I never think about when planning my cruise anyway. And I wouldn't worry that much about travelers' diarrhea either. Just bring your own bottled water if you feel iffy about it and you'll be fine.

Just follow the guidelines DCL sends, that's really all you need to know.

Unless you're going to Africa or South America there's no need to worry about yellow fever.

We did the Panama Canal cruise a few years ago and the only suggestion our doctor had was to get Hepatitis and Typhoid vaccines. As long as all our other normal immunizations were up to date.

The logic was not for something we would encounter on shore, but rather what you might encounter on the ship. From other travellers and crew members.

For the most part the immunizations were good for a lifetime and covered by insurance, so it didnt seem like a bad idea to just get it over with.

A yellow fever vaccination is usually required by high developped countries upon coming back from Africa and maybe some Asian Countries.

For example my father in law worked in Mali and Burkina Faso for quite a while and needed the vaccination for entering Europe (in his case France and Austria) again.

If it were required, don't you think DCL would have made you aware of that?

No, there are no required vaccines for a Bahamas cruise.

It seems as if your question has been adequately answered, but for future refence, the Center for Disease Control's website is a great resource when traveling out of the country.

http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/page/vaccinations.htm

It's where most docs go (if they do not specialize in travel medicine) to answer questions about travel requirements for pts.

Thx to all that replied.

To kcashner, I'll pass on the sarcasm. It was a question and you are more then welcome not to answer.
