Yee Haa Bob Jackson Let Go

Oh wow. I am so sorry to hear this. I have not signed into the DIS forever and I log in to this terrible news. Thi show was the best. Honestly one of my favorite live entertainment acts in WDW.

Dang.

And the Grand Floridian Orchestra got canned too.

Plus they ran off the Muppets in the Magic Kingdom who tried to make history interesting.

The human people acts/characters are/were a big draw for me (the music/human acts in Epcot too).

All that's left will soon be just an elaborate amusement park.

Disney's putting themself in a "chicken-or-the-egg" position. People won't come until there's more to do and Disney won't give us more to do until more people come.

It's going to be a slow, SLOW improvement then. And it will happen without me.

After my scheduled trips play out, it might be time to take a long break.

Bama Ed

PS - I've never said that before, either.

I’ve never made it to see his show, although I have planned on it several times.

Sadly all of the cuts Disney has made has changed my opinion of Disney as a vacation now. I’ve been wanting to go to Hersey Park. That’s were my money will be next year

That is not the problem right now - it may be in the future - but the problem now is that no one is traveling. Air travel is still down 70% and international travel is non-existent. Until that changes, nothing they do in the parks will bring people back.

I agree this absolutely sucks but,

They will not reopen POR for possibly years. This is not life as usual. Disney has to survive. They can't keep CM's on the payroll if there are no guests.

Open the economy worldwide and perhaps we will have the Disney we love. Until then I am just happy they have not closed entirely.

I can't put into words the sadness I feel for all those who are not returning to their positions. I can only say that I am so grateful for the blessings they have give to me and my family over the years. That will never be taken for granted. Praying that those blessings will return to them 10 fold as they go forward. 'Thank you' will never be enough, but it's all that I have.

This is a sad time for many people right now. Many companies have laid off large percentages of staff, and this was after mandatory furlough and pay reduction for many of them. Business is way, way down.

Disney had 100,000 workers in the parks and resorts division. California is still completely closed, and Florida has greatly reduced capacity. They have a responsibility to their shareholders, and they can’t sustain paying people when the park is completely shuttered as it is right now in CA.

I am hoping this pandemic ends soon, and Disney hires back all the wonderful cast members. I won’t boycott Disney over these tough decisions - the better business is, the less likely more people will lose jobs.

My best wishes to Bob and the GF Orchestra, I hope they can come back soon.

I understand if they laid him off but based on his statement "I've just learned my act will not be returning to Disney" sounds permanent and that is the sad part.

We have a lot of great theme parks in Ohio too. Cedar Fair has been re-investing a lot of money into all areas of their parks...at least the ones in Ohio. Kings Island and Cedar Point just changed their Halloween Haunt to a food festival and combined it with the kiddie activities.

Dollywood is also building their second resort hotel after several years of large expansions within the park.

There are a lot of great now-comparable options available locally for a fraction of the price.

My flights to and from Orlando were full of families on vacation. Social-distancing wasn't possible because almost every seat was sold and I think the airline's route schedule is the same as pre-pandemic. Universal is packed on weekends and busy most of the other days, often with multi-hour waits for the most popular attractions. I'm going to be traveling more now that I've had the virus because prices are so cheap. WDW has not been allowing AP renewals (which really screws over families that have different renewal dates) so I've moved on to places that do want my money. With all these cuts I'm glad I didn't renew because other theme parks are doing a much better job keeping attractions open and entertainment offerings. WDW still hasn't even refunded my AP cost from during the shutdown and it has been 2 1/2 months.

Universal cut ticket prices for locals (who still have to pay for parking, food, and souvenirs) and out-of-state costs aren't bad (buy 2 days get 2 free). They opened up two haunted houses and other Halloween activities. They are also having their performers wear masks so entertainment hasn't been reduced much. It's just not true that Disney isn't able to do anything to bring people back into the parks.

This is a sad time for many. We are Disney lovers but my thoughts and heart is with all the people who have lost their jobs.

Pre-COVID, I felt many times Disney was always trying to come up with ways to charge us for something - which might have been/might not have been worth it. It's a business. I am worried that many of these cuts will be gone forever or at least for a very long time. I think we will see more ways they will be raising prices/looking to charge us for many things to make up money lost or just finding ways to cut, cut. Yes, all business of course.

Air travel is significantly down. The reason why flights are packed is that airlines are condensing their flight schedules. I had the earliest flight out for my November trip, woke this morning to see that flight canceled and I'm moved to the next flight out about an hour later.

I agree that WDW could be doing more. I don't love that remodels are taking priority over entertainment and that the benefits of staying on property are diminishing rapidly. I think WDW is shooting themselves in the foot with that- I don't care how nice the Poly looks, people will make WDW just a small part of an Orlando trip and Universal and other Orlando businesses will start getting some our money rather our trips being WDW-only vacation. I think WDW is vastly underestimating those of us that love the nostalgia of Disney that is delivered by live performers.

Port Orleans is not currently open so I assume he's been furloughed until now? With no reopening date in sight I think this was inevitable unfortunately.

Hope they can bring him back (assuming he hasn't found something else) when the company and vacation travel is in a better space.

Another news source told me he was ‘fired’, Hmmm? Word use matters..
Yes it is very sad that Yehaa Bob has been laid off (fired) but he sadly joins another 27, 999 other Disney Cast Members.

Sounds like the other news source wanted "Click bait". Unfortunate but both mean the same thing to Bob. If you are laid off with no return date that equals being fired for most people.

Normally "fired" means you were let go for "Cause" while being laid off simply means your services are no longer needed due to changing business needs / demands. More than 1/2 of the resorts are closed with no scheduled reopening dates.
