9. First Mousekeeping note of the week (Part 3)
9:00 a.m. ringy ding ding. Oh its Mickey again waking me up. I woke up feeling sort of light headed (specifically as I had a protein spill the night before). I decided to take my time this morning so I turned on the tv, drank a glass of water and had a few pretzels.
TIP:
Be warned that Disney TV is lacking good cable so if you intend to relax, go to the pool for entertainment.
I absolutely hate Disney TV. Sure they pipe in all the local channels and give you the news networks (CNN, etc.) but all the rest of the stations are all Disney. Boring and it drives me nuts. I just wish, in this one area, that Disney could be like other hotels and offer movies to rent over there TV systems. Anyway I like to watch Diane and Charlie in the a.m. and looky here, they sent someone to Disney World for the grand showing of 75 5 foot statues of Mickey Mouse, as it's his 75th birthday today, which have been painted by various movie, tv stars and sports celebrities. So I decided to watch the grand showing on TV instead of running over to the front of MK to watch it live.
Anyway, I don't recall which Disney executive (possibly MK president) was up on the podium but the interviewer was talking about Mickey's 75th and suddenly put the Disney exec. on the spot by mentioning that it was also Minnie's b-day as well as she first appeared in Steamboat Willie as well. This sort of threw the Disney exec. off a bit and he had to bring it back to Mickey so he totaled ignored the question. Guess someone forgot to prepare him for that. Anyway they pulled the sheets off of those Mickey's which I would see later on in the day.
I decided to get dressed and packed my bag for the day. Actually I switched bags as I knew that I may be riding water rides today so my water proof bag came out. As I was packing, Mousekeeping knocked on my door, I opened it to let her know that I would be out in about 10 minutes. 10 mins. later, I was on my way toward the Food Court. Decided to take it easy and ordered a blueberry muffin and a milk, $3.60 gone.
Walked out front and waited for the Epcot bus at the Main bus depot. Within 5 minutes, the bus was here and 6 minutes later we were at Epcot.
Walked in and rode Spaceship Earth at about 10:30. Decided to ride myself to death on Test Track and rode it 3 times in a row. Then decided time to ride the River of Time in Mexico and film just a bit of it. Personally between us, I don't really like this ride but it is one that I do at least once a trip. I also hope that Mexico refurbishes and makes some major changes on this ride but I hope that they keep the last room where the fireworks are going off on the ceiling.
Off to Norway I go and boy oh boy what a walk. I went from Mexico to Norway in a total of 5 minutes. Wow I walk fast don't I. Anyway, rode Maelstrom twice before moving on to browse in the shops. Decided to walk to China and yes made it in 5 minutes. Now where in the world can you see different countries all in one day like that - only at Disney. I decided that I didn't want to watch the China 360 movie so just browsed the shops and decided to walk back to Future World. As I was walking past Mexico their mariachy (sp.?) band had just come out and was playing beautiful happy music so I sat and watched them for a bit. Continued onward eventually and entered the Land pavillion as I had a 12:30 PS at Garden Grill.
As it was only 12:10 and there was no line at Living with the Land, just walked right on and filmed a little. Got off right at 12:30 and walked up to my PS at Garden Grill. I was seated immediately. Now this is a sidenote, this place is one of the few restuarants that you need a PS to get into as it was always busy. However, I was only one of maybe 30 people eating in here today. Odd thing about this is that I called to make all of my ps about 65 to 70 days before leaving for my trip and had asked for a noon PS and was told that time wasn't open. Really that time wasn't open, do you mean to tell me that you managed to feed 200 people in the past 30 minutes and clean all the tables? Lets be real this didn't happen and I didn't bother to ask why I couldn't have had the earlier ressie. Anyway, I was seated, my waitress came over and before I knew my food was there.
The waitress was gracious and brought out enough food for one. She also reminded me that it was Mickey's 75th and to wish him a happy birthday when he comes around. I do love this restaurant as all the food is good and covers all areas of food that you need in a day. I had whole grain bread with butter, fried fish, flank steak and turkey with stuffing, a vegetable medley and the best mashed potatoes in the world which by the way I had a second serving of (I am ashamed but they are so GOOOOODDD). In the meantime I have met Chip and Dale who were both playing with me at the same time and I have some film of this which was very cute. Then goofy came around. I had to tell him that he was my favorite today as he reminds me of my puppies (Scruffy and Baby) at home whom I was missing their company by now. Finally Mickey comes and the birthday greeting went out. He hugged me for a long time which was nice as this was one place that I did feel alone in due to the fact that no crowds were eating there. Right after he left for his break, the waitress brought out this apple crisp dessert thing. Oh my GOD was this good. The apple part was hot and the ice cream on top cold and melting. Let's just say I made a pig of myself. Oops, didn't mean to type that but I did.
Mental note: must walk off lunch and dessert, time to exercise.
Anyway at about 1:25 I'm out $28 due to lunch but stuffed to excess. As my body was attempting to absorb lunch and turn it into energy, I decided to go and see Food Rocks as it is going away due to the new Flying over California ride currently being built behind the Land Pavillion. I have never seen this show in any of my previous trips. So I sat in Food Rocks for the 13 minute show and have to say that I laughed and filmed a good bit of it for future reference.
Next decided to do The Sea. I walked in right before the Dolphin show was set to begin and filmed most of it. Walked around and decided that The Sea Pavillion really needs to be updated as well. There is only one shark in the tank now and there used to be a large turtle but I couldn't find him. After the dolphin show there were two CM's scuba diving in the main fish tank cleaning the coral at the bottom. I had a little girl and her family standing next to me watching them as well when one of the CM's noticed her (she was about 4 years old). Well he began to do all sorts of tricks in the tank before her and watcher her reactions. He kept disappearing below the tank and bringing up shells and throwing them into the water around him. The he would touch the glass and she would put her little hand up to his. It was a very touching moment and everyone was laughing. Finally he waived all of us a fairwell and exited the tank.
At this point I decided to see the Imagination ride. Now last time I was here (last Dec.) this ride was closed. Anyway, this was a walkon. I didn't realize that they completely redid this ride so I was shocked as I had expected to see the old figment ride. Anyway, it is okay to see at least once although I actually preferred the old ride. Then onto Honey I shrunk the audience. I have always hated the preshow as they always know how to make you cry. Now I was missing my dogs earlier when I saw pluto, but after seeing this preshow I really was missing my dogs. So eventually got in to see the show. Yes I was shrunk then rats ran around me then the big giant dog sneezed on me after the snake tried to eat me. Enough excitement already time to take some film of the the fountains.
3:30, Time to leave and take the monorail to Magic Kingdom but one last ride today on Spaceship Earth. Oh how far man, or more or less WOMAN, have come.
