Yearly reviews & increases - what's "average"?

My first year I received .10, second year I received .35. This year we are an SCA contract and raises are mandated by the Dept of Labor. The new company takes over on 01/01.

I get a 5% bonus every year and about a 5 - 10% raise. My company is doing really well

Before DH's old company was bought out it wasn't unusual to get 10% or more for top employees, average you would get 5% then every couple years they would tack on an additional 4% or so for inflation adjustment (privately held company). It was nice to be rewarded for hard work. When his division was bought out by another company the raises all of the sudden went to 1, 2, 3%, it was horrible (publicly held company). This was the #1 reason DH left, he would give these reviews, tell people how great they were and then had to look at them with a straight face and say "all I can give you is a 2% raise". If he tried to do anything more, HR would stop it. It got to the point where the whole company was run by the HR department.

Now, DH gets what ever raise he wants, sort of, nice being back in control of those things again!

Our graduate student union contract guarantees either a 3% raise or the amount which the liberal arts faculty are given, which ever is higher. That's about $400 a person per year.

Last year 2 1/2%. I'm hearing this year won't be much better.

DH averages 3-4% and he gets one of the higher raises in his department. However, what we'd really like to see for once, haven't seen this in a few years, is a raise that is enough to cover the amount that they raise the insurance payment by. I'm not even talking copays or anything- just the amount you pay per paycheck to carry health insurance. It's outpaced raises for about three years now. Blech :sad2:

my dh received a 3% increase, they raised his amt he contributes to health coverage by 7 %, so he lost 4 %.
I received a 3 % increase last yr. Hoping for the top prize of 5 % this yr. AT the beginning of ea yr a goal is set, if we pass our goal, then we get a payout which could be around 1000.00. We won't know until the end of the mo.

where i retired from (gov) it mattered not if you got a stellar review or a poor one-you got whatever the next pay step was-2 1/2 to 5 percent (and if you were at the top unless the union negotiated a cola you were stuck). now that i'm retired i've been getting a 2 percent each year (whereas my still employeed former co-workers have not received beyond step increases any cola raises for about 4 years-and their health insurance costs have gone way up each year). dh works for a gov employer and got a decent (not great) raise about 5 years ago due to a reclassification study, unfortunatly a year after his employer decided that they did'nt agree with the numbers that the reclass studied used and deemed dh and his co-workers 'over compensated' as a result they are in a frozen pay status and will receive no raises (including cola's) until some other classification gets within 5 percent of the frozen wage rate (estimated to take 9 years).

Don't you mean "Beautiful and Amazing?" (Oh wait, that's another thread... allegedly.) As someone who spent the last 13 years in HR, I can tell you that you did well! Generally 3% nowadays is given for "excellent" performance.

One time I literally got a 35 CENT per hour raise after a stellar review. (And no, I wasn't making $5.00 an hour. I was working for a cheap b****** back in 2004.) Thank goodness I stopped performing my charity work for that firm! :rotfl:

Good job, CR!!!

Tracy

I can beat that!..on my first job as a cable services repair tech, way back in 89, after my 90 days was up...I got a good review and a .05 cent raise :rotfl: , but after the HR saw that, they bumped it up to a quarter :cheer2: (ok..that was back when I was only making $5.50/hr)

There were some years I was lucky to get a quarter raise, but avg usually bwt .40 and .50. but since being at this new job (same career, diff employer, who use to work at the other place, and now has his own business doing the same thing) my last raise was like 7% (not sure if my math is correct, but it was a $1.20 increase)

Last year my boyfriend got a 20% pay rise + an additional 35% of his salary as a bonus. This year, he said he will be upset if it doesn't match that. I directed him to this thread to show how fortunate he is!

It should be interesting to see what he gets. He does work for a major financial services company in IT development, and they pay extremely well. It was his first year and they started him on a low salary as he had no financial background, so either they bumped him up to a more appropriate level after a year, or thats just how generous they are!

Zero! Seriously with cutbacks and such in fields, my company and my DH's company has not given raises in YEARS!

My DH company does these salary bands--and I substitute teach. Yes, I can do extra things for the school such as work extra classes and such.

Wow so i guess its good to see that i am not getting the short end. I work for a private law firm and our average is 1-3% and bonuses good god must be at about 1% or something really ridiculous.

our normal raises are 2-3 %, I authorise as high as 7% to keep my "stars". I negociated hard this year and personally got a little higher than that!

Oh man, can I relate! Except DH's company is even cheaper, he generally gets 2% and his raise hasn't exceeded the increase in health insurance premiums in 6 or 7 years, yes YEARS. They give out raises in July and the insurance increases in January, guess they think we're too dumb to notice that with inflation we're making less then we did years ago. I hate his company with a passion, fortunately we have a plan to become our own bosses in 5 or 6 years.

Ours is a range of 1% - 6% based on a merit review. Every employee receives a "performance appraisal" each year and the wage increase is based on the scores from that. Average increase has been 5%, although 6% is not unheard of.

DH works for the city under union contract.....they haven't had their contract settled yet (working on 3 years now, I think), so no raise since then. Even when they do get an increase, it's in the 1% - 2% range.

I work for a major oil company and the average is usually some wierd number like 3.216%. The way its distributed is based on annual reviews with some getting as high as 6% while others get only 1%. We also get a bonus based on the overall companies performance and tied to your job grade. My grade has a bonus capped at 10% of my annual pay.

Oh for the good old days. I started my first professional job (after college) in March 1982 In January 1983 my supervisor apoligized to me because the raise he gave me was only 10% becasue two months before I got there the raises that year had been 15%, which had been the norm. As far as bonus goes I will never see any like I got when I was trading. Some of those were as much as your annual salary and I worked with one Nymex Trader who got a million dollar bonus two years in a row.

I guess I should feel pretty good. August '05 I got a promotion- increased salary by 25%. In April '06 I got a merit raise of 7%. Wasn't really expecting anything. With this company (our old company was bought out 4 yrs ago) I haven't received less than 7% while DH is lucky to get 4%- a couple of years they actually took a pay CUT.

5% is excellent!!! Two years ago we didn't get a raise at all, early this year it was 2% and as of Jan 1 we will get 4%. It may seem like a lot, but it's not considering that the health care was constantly going up. When we got the 2% raise, I actually bought home less $.
