Year round schools?

Does anyone have an opinion..good or bad about these. I am tlaking about the 9 weeks in three weeks out program. We are moving soon and my kids are 3 and 1 (so far). The area we are moving to offers year round. If any of your kids do this system or you know people that like it or dont like..any and all opinions are welcomed. As a new mom to the school systems..any info is welcomed. Thanks!

They both started kindergarten as year rounders. I am positive about it, the frequent breaks seem to re-charge them. Also the year round school here in my county post higher test scores than many traditional schools.

I think it has been a positive experience for us.

I have several friends who have kids in year around programs and they liked them very much until one of the kids in the family moved on to middle school or high school. Then the older kids were on a traditional schedual (Sept. - June) while the younger ones were still doing year around. Planning becomes a nightmare since when the younger ones are off the older are still in school and vise versea. That may not be the case in your area but in ours the older schools stayed on a traditional schedual for sports.

Several of my nieces and nephews are on year round, all on different timings. They only get 2 weeks off at a time. All my siblings seem to like it, although for my brother it is difficult at times to arrange child care. My sister loves it because they can go on vacation during non-peak times.

Basically we get 3 weeks off at a time.

Are there daycare type programs for the kids during the day during those three weeks off? At least if the kids are off in the summer, you can send them to day camp. What do working parents do?

I am not worried about the daycare issue. I am a SAHM and I plan to stay that way. If I work at all, I would work at gymboree play and learn or a gym daycare, someplace that if I had to I could take my kids with me and somplace easy to find a sub. But as I tell my DH I am retired from working outside the home.
