Year of Doing Stuff We've Never Done

My husband and I just became annual pass holders and so our trips to DL are much less rushed as far as trying to get on rides. So we are doing things we've never done. We've done almost all the big stuff except hes never done canoes or Mark Twain and we've both never done the Astro Orbitor. What are some small little known things to ride or shows to see that we should check out? Thanks!

Where is the Drawn to the Animation? Funny story about the Dapper Dan's.... They sang us happy birthday on my birthday trip after a janitor had a group waiting for a parade sing to us. They told us they thought they could do better and sang to us. As for the piano at the Coke Corner... We sang Happy 50th Birthday to Disneyland with the piano player and a group of people at midnight on the 17th of July. It was awesome Where is PUSH usually floating around?

When we saw PUSH, he was near the bathrooms on the way up to the Grizzly area in DCA. Funniest thing I've seen, my son thought it was great!

Drawn to animation is in DCA near Monster's Inc... It's a cute little show...

We usually see PUSH in DCA near the bathrooms near Golden Dreams (In front of the water wheel at GRR ... FYI his favorite snack is churro wrappers

Another suggestion is to take the grand cirle tour on the train... It's a nice way to take a mid-day break...

Haha! I take the whole train ride almost everytime we go... I love the dinosaur thing! I also love riding through Splash Mountain I am definately gonna look for PUSH now...

I vote "nay" for Drawn to the Magic. The show is professionally presented but it's lame. The only thing I would stick around for is the photo op with Cinderella, Woody and Sorcerer Mickey after the show.

I would go to the Animation building in DCA and do the character sketching session. When I went last week, they were drawing Tigger, Pooh and Grumpy (one per session -- not all at once!). If you ask nicely at the end, the animator may give you his/her completed sketch. The charisma of the animators varies so if yours isn't especially magnetic, keep going back!

Jedi Training Academy and Billy Hill and the Hillbillies, as mentioned above, are good. My favorite Billy Hill performers are the ones who are there on Saturday and Sunday nights. If you see the guys who do "Puddleprance" and the lead singer puts on a "pros-teeth-is", then you have the right show.

If you go on a weekday and crowds/kids are low, take a ride on the Mark Twain and ask to ride with the captain/pilot. Many people know about this one so odds are someone will beat you to it. But it's a nice ride in any case.

Hang around Snow White Grotto and wait a little while to see if Snow White sings to you and the fish dance.

Check the calendar for Jack Sparrow's appearances at Pirate's Lair. Wait for him to appear just before the start time at the exit to the rafts. Board the raft that he boards (another one that works best when the park is not crowded). He will not pose for pics or sign autographs until he gets to the meet-and-greet area on TSI. But he will pose for pictures and talk to you while on the raft. He is surprisingly hot -- .

If you're staying on TSI, check out the walk-through pirate's lair. Make sure you reach for all of the treasure and Davy Jones' heart

Have a corn dog from the little red cart on Main Street and eat it on the benches located behind it. It's a character entrance/exit. They always take time to interact with whatever little kids are hanging out there. It's very cute, sometimes funny and always very sweet.

I started doing these things when I got my pass. It's funny how that sense of urgency to get on ALL of the rides fades when you know you can come back and ride them whenever you want. Have fun!

No! Absolutely do not do things you haven't done before! I made this mistake when I went to go watch the skit in front of the Golden Horseshoe. (Does it have a name? Not Billy and the Hillbillies) I was watching nonchalantly, eating some fries when they made me be a bank teller. Hmph.

If you must, I'd say try out exploring Pirates Lair.. I just sat and watched Jack Sparrow sign autographs and take pictures with the kids just because he was hilarious. When the line slowed down, he came over and spent about 15 minutes with me, even though his line picked up. Or if you're looking to meet new people, and do new things, and spend a whole lot of money, pick up pin trading.

Ha! That's the Laughing Stock Company. They do their shows outside of the Golden Horseshoe about 15 minutes before each Billy Hill show. During one skit, I was volunteered by one of the bank robbers when the sheriff demanded to meet their mother, as were claiming to be brothers for some reason. Too bad that the other bank robber had chosen another woman in the crowd at the same time.

Amen to the pin trading, especially the money part.

Checkers is so fun, my girls love to sit and play while we wait for the parade.

Pin trading is great, we all love it and we have met some really nice people doing that.

Billy Hill is something we do almost every time. It's so much fun!! We love that show.

We've done the canoes, Pirate Island, the train over and over and over again, we ride the various modes of transport down Main Street and back again, wander the shops, watch the bands in Tomorrowland and so many other things. It's great knowing that we aren't *missing* anything because we don't ride every ride.

I really like wandering through the shops in NO Square, they have some really ones back there.

My friends and I got to dance with the mardi gras parade when we went in April... it was a blast!

it is being partially renovated right now, but my DD loves innoventions. You can make a character for VMK right there.

We like to go to the redwood creek challenge to play.

The Animation studio is neat. They have a really cool display in character close up right now. It will boggle your mind when you first see it. It is the Toy Story animation display, definitely go check it out. I am not sure how long it will be there though.

There have been occasions on a day trip where my DD takes a nap in her stroller and I have just sat on a park bench in the circle at DLR and just took it all in while she finished her nap.

I have seen PUSH near the restrooms by the Astro Orbiter in DLR before too. But mostly I see him near the Golden Dreams theater.

I was waiting in line to get Ice Cream in the little alley off of main street and heard some strange stuff from the upstairs buildings...

Since we don't have kids, I usually avoid FantasyLand because it's always such a zoo. This year we did Peter Pan (it's been about 10 years since I was last on it, and I LOVED it!) and Snow White's Scary Adventure (this ride cracked me up - I was actually scared on it and can't imagine how little kids can handle it! I love how at the end it's all tied up into a pretty little bow...).

One thing that I really loved was watching the Bootstrappers - they're the pirate band that perform on Pirate's Lair (I know they perform at 12:25, but I'm not sure what their schedule is for the rest of the day). They put on a great show, and then they segway into the Captain Jack show.

Sitting in Town Plaza with a yummy treat - I never knew how happening this place was because we always just pass on through to get to the 'action'.

Every few visits, we hit a food place we haven't tried before, or haven't had in a long time

Since we go fairly frequently, we tend to develop a routine on how we get to-and-from certain places. Like, we always use the main entrace for TomorrowLand - we found we were never using the walkway over by Nemo towards Matterhorn, so we try to make sure we do that because we might see something we've never seen before. Another good example is the walkway from the back of the castle to FrontierLand. I had actually forgotten about it and then we went through it a few months ago - it was completely different since they've redone Rancho del Zocalo!

I always like to go on to sites like this: http://www.hiddenmickeys.org/Disneyland/Secrets.html and then look for some of the stuff while we're there!

OMG I love the Bootstrappers!! I always get the Whats Your Curse song stuck in my head and its not on any pirate cd anywhere in the park We are starting to do restaurants also. Everytime we head over to do Peter Pan the line is huge... lol... I have a ton of pics from the last time we went on Snow White... Lol... it is pretty scary if you are a kid... I remember not liking it... lol...
