Luckily though, last marching season we borrowed a Jupiter sousphone from another school and I got to use it. It's in pretty good shape.
I was lucky, SIU had a great selection of "rental" tuba's prob beacause we didn't have too many when I was there, but It took me all of college to save up for mine, but my senior year, I was able to play it during our last "recitals" (yes, music minor) and then in grad school I played in the wind ensemble, but now I just take it out to relieve stress, and play in the community band (oh, and I have been the substitute Tuba player at the HS I teach at during years when no one wanted to learn the tuba)
