We just returned yesterday from a weekend at YC. We arrived around 5 pm and had to wait to check-in about a minute. The lady who checked us in was nice and we received an upgrade to concierge (we had booked standard). We were thrilled because we have never stayed in concierge and I was curious about it. You needed to use your key to get to the 5th floor. We were in Room 5218. The view was of the parking lot, the convention center and the front of the hotel. The room was nice and clean with a fridge but no coffeemaker. There were 2 sinks, and the toilet and shower had a door between them and the sinks. The bedspreads had ships on them with a blue background, and the main colors in the room were blue and white. I liked that there were 2 lights with dimmers on each side of each bed so each person had their own light. The mattresses were reallly comfortable. Does anyone know what brand they are? Back to the review. The first thing we did was to go to SAB. It's basically 3 separate pools, one for kids, a lazy river (which I loved; it was deep - up to 8 feet), and just a large pool that curved around. There's also a big slide, hot tubs, and a whirpool. It's definitely a fun pool. The only bad part is the water gets warm when there are a lot of people in it. It was cooler in the morning when no one was in it. It's not easy getting a lounge chair, esp. in the afternoon. We went to the pool all 3 days. It was so refreshing when we came back from Epcot in the afternoon.
We made reservations at Yachtsman Steakhouse for that night after we checked in. Then I went to concierge to ask what they could do for DH's birthday (this trip was his present; it was also my b-day present and our X-mas present to each other - notice a theme?
They said they would put balloons in our room and a card from his favorite character. I said great. Then I asked if I could do something at the restaurant that night. They said they would make a cake (a 6 inch personalized cake - choice of vanilla or chocolate; costs $12.95 - I thought it was a good deal) and deliver it to the restaurant). We got to the end of our meal and waitress asked if we wanted dessert. Then I realized she had no idea about the cake so I get up and go talk to someone. Then they took care of it. When I got back to table, DH already signed check and was ready to go. I had to tell him to stay and then he knew something was going on.
The people at concierge were really nice but clueless. I feel bad saying that because we received an upgrade and I was really excited. But it's true. The night we arrived we asked about the Disney Dining experience. They gave us the form, we filled it out, they faxed it in and told us to pick up our card at guest relations at Epcot after five. We go to guest relations at International gateway and they send us to front of the park. We had to exit the park. Then they had no record of us sending it in and told us the dining thing was open on the weekends. I wish concierge had been aware of this so we didn't waste almost an hour dealing with this. We also never received the balloons the next day.
I liked having the food and drinks in the lounge. I just wish they had stayed open later past 10 pm. It would close for an hour between changing the food. In the morning, there were bagels, donuts, cereal, fruit, etc. For the lunch time, there was snacks like popcorn, pretzels, goldfish, trailmix and cookies, lemonade, iced tea. In the early evening, there was cheese, veggies, pita, beer and wine.
The hotel was quiet and we liked it. There didn't seem to be as many kids as the BC (we were just in the lobby). I liked the decor of YC - hardwood floors and the blue and white. The hotel was clean. You could walk right to Epcot and over to Boardwalk at night and the pool was fun. The staff was friendly but not too many knew enough. Besides concierge, we had to ask 3 different people where the refillable mugs were. We would stay here again. Hope this helps.
