YC price just blew me out of the water

I completely agree. Everyone has to figure out what they can afford for a vacation. Hopefully, Disney will continue adding value and moderate resorts, along with deluxe resorts, to fit everyone's budget.

And I do agree that CMs should make more $$$.

I find it hard to believe that a standard room in Jan is 495....

Sounds like a mistake:confused3

that means the rooms at the poly and gf will be that as well.

1) Rooms are priced at what the market will bear.
2) And it obvious that of lot of people will bear a lot.
3) As long as folks stay, prices will continue to rise.
4) It is just a shame the hourly-CM's don't get some of the added profits.

The price increases hurt frequent vacationers. Folks that have never visited or plan a Once in a Lifetime trip, think thats just what it costs to visit. We make the trip every other year, so we are willing (if we are able) to spend more when we do visit. I'm wondering what I'm willing to bear. How much is too much?

There are fewer and fewer "slow" times of year to visit, with the increased overall occupancy, prices are not likely to decrease.

Prices have not been determined for 2009, therefore they price the rooms at what they feel is the highest price during a certain time period. That way when they come out the guest is fine with it, if they lower it, but upset if they have to raise it.

I would not give it a thought to be the actual price until much later on.

Let me back up a second. I have stayed onsite a few times and I have never reserved this far in advance. It was usually 10 months out. Last year we tried to get a standard at the YC for all 4 of us (2 rooms) but none were available so we went back with the WL. So this year I wanted to make sure we got them for next year. I am sure the rates will drop around the 10 month mark. We have stayed at the Dolphin on a great nurse discount (and loved the Dolphin) but were hoping for the YC. I save to take my kids and spouses every 2-3 years as a treat for them. It is the best place in the world for us to vacation and we have made some great memories over the last 10 years. So...I will wait on the discounts (AAA or AP) to come out later in the year and see what happens. I know that I do have the rooms. Thanks to all for the suggestions and responses.

Hi Sorry still kind of new here. Could someone tell me what the AP (discount) is? I trying to figure out a way to go back to WDW in Dec 08 the cheapest way possible. Thanks.

AP=Annual Pass. Annual Passholders often get significant room discounts--up to 40%! However, discounts are not always available and the discounts arent offered until a few months before the coming vacation. For example, discounted rooms are available now through the middle of February, and are not available at every resort. Most passholders make reservations well in advance, and then adjust their reservations when the rates are released.

Hope this helps.

Wow:scared1:

This is one of the reasons why we have the AP's - we have now called BC our home resort and I make sure to go when the codes come out. :goodvibes

I agree that the reason it is so high is because 2009 rates are not out yet. I believe they use the highest 2008 rate as a "tentative" rate and will adjust it when the actual rates come out.

Yes, this is why I have abandoned Disney "Deluxe" The only "deluxe" part is the pricing.....:rotfl: (And that's with the "discounts" no way would I even CONSIDER paying rack rate for a Disney room, If I can't get a discount I stay off site!)

Service, not so deluxe
Room, not so deluxe

Price. Higher then the Ritz Carlton (which is deluxe)

I travel a lot and am lucky enough to stay in "true" deluxe or very nice hotels. Disney "deluxes" fail to measure up on every indicator but location and IMHO the mods don't give that big a drop in location vs price.....popcorn::

IMO, the mods are the best value on property...I just wish they would add more mods!!

While I know what a "true" deluxe is and stay at them whenever I have the chance (in cities other than Orlando) and do tend to agree, BUT at Disney the location is the reason we stay deluxe every time :) That's what is comes down to ~ location, location, location!!

(Although I do admit we always get a great discount no matter when we go!)

We enjoy staying in the deluxe resorts for the little bit of extra room and the location. We have AAA and AP's, but even with those discounts in mid-Feb. we are moving to a moderate because we can not justify paying around $400 per night with an AP discount for a standard view room (Wilderness, Poly). We enjoy cruising as well, so in order to afford both we are having to change our spending habits and move down to cheaper accomodations! I love Disney, but their pricing system for 2008 (per night not per stay like it was last year-you used to get the cheaper rate for your entire stay even if the rate increased while you were there) has got me rethinking staying onsite! Their rates are terrible, and I can not even imagine paying rack rates!

I agree with your statement that big price increases hurts the frequent visitor. -- we just came back from our Once in a Lifetime Trip to WDW and spent way more than we usually budget for a vacation. We usually go to Disneyland once a year and spend way less on hotels and food. But since we knew we wouldn't be going back to DW any time soon, we splurged on everything. We booked the best rooms that we could afford and ate at some great restaurants. On our DL trips we're usually eating packed pbj sandwiches  .

We were fortunate enough to be upgraded at the BWI and GF to their 2 bedroom suites. When we got home I looked up the price of the rooms :scared1: . The rooms were huge and beautiful, but there is no way I'd pay that much to stay one night in a hotel. We just don't spend enough time in the room to justify it.

I know that some lucky people receive codes and other discounts, but there seems to be no real formula to this. I wonder why there isn't a formal frequent guest program in place so upgrades like we were given would go to loyal guests.

I totally agree! The pricing definitely has to do with location. We're staying at the POLY because of the monorail. My nephew loves the MK and we're planning on spending the majority of our time in that park.

I wouldn't exactly put Disney resorts in the same category as the Ritz-Carlton or the Four Seasons. That would be like comparing apples and oranges.

Because that would make too much sense. :rotfl2: In all seriousness, Disney probably hasnt established a frequent visitor program because they know their loyal guests are hooked, and dont need discounts to entice them to return.

That is insane! We stayed there last Oct and paid $359 a night and DH was telling me I was crazy! I would stay at the Swan before I paid that again

That's one reason we are staying at the Swan--$189/night with govt./teacher rate during Easter, and it's right next door to YC/BC. The best part is it is deluxe in every way. I'm just hoping the teacher/govt. rate will be available at the times that I'm going in the future. Sometimes those rates are as low as $149.

:scared1:
I don't think any room is worth 780 or 1300 a night:scared:
Unless your in the castle:confused3

these threads make me even happier with my DVC purchase....
holy crow....

I couldn't agree more!;) We don't worry about price increases any more!

It's a completely individual choice. It depends on preference and budget. I know lots of people that have stayed at the value resorts and loved it. Personally, I'd prefer to stay somewhere that has numerous transportation (not just the bus) and dining options (not just a food court).
Disney has taken into consideration various budgets. You can reserve a Magic Your Way Package, Magic Your Way+Dining, Magic Your Way+Deluxe Dining, Premium, or Platinum packages. You can stay value, moderate, or deluxe. There's something for everyone.
