YC price just blew me out of the water

I live in NYC and could get a room at the Waldorf for Disney's rates! But, like most people, I'm willing to pay it. Does anyone know if there are ever discounts for CL or suites? I booked a 1 bedroom suite at the POLY for 8/9-8/15 and am paying $780.00/night. I'm considering upgrading to a 2 bedroom suite, but not sure if it'll be worth $1300/night. I like extra space and amenities. Is it really worth spendingthat much on a night at a hotel? Does anyone think the deluxe resorts are well-worth the $$$$?

EGADS! $1300 /night??? I can spend a week at a moderate for that!

I personally felt that the extra cost to stay at WL this past December was a complete waste of money. We would have been happier at Coronado Springs...but that is just the opinion of my DH and I.

Everyone has certain things they want to see in a resort...for some people the deluxe resorts fill those needs. it doesn't for me.

Here's hoping you get a better deal....didnt realize how lucky I was last Aug/Sept....we cancelled our free dining ressie and re booked using a room only code and got YC Club Level for $360 a night, and then got upgraded to a lagoon view, so glad I booked standard!
Try a studio at SSr or OKW....

I love staying on property and never even considered staying offsite, but that is what it is coming to for us. It's hard to justify paying $5,000 for a week just to stay on property. :sad2: Oh well, I still love the Mouse. :)

We have a 2 bedroom booked for August at OKW. I had an email code (but the code was really no better than the AAA rate), and we are paying about $485 a night. We need all the room. However, with the kids approaching college-age, we're not going to be able to do this again any time soon.

Disney's pricing will soon result in all first-timers and not many return guests. They are making a Disney vacation truly "a once in a lifetime" event.

so, how do you find the discount rates? I've read through the info on the top of the resorts section, but all I was able to find are threads about people hoping to find a code for a certain month. Others have codes because they are FL residents or annual pass holders.

How does a "normal person" find a discount code? I am about to book for Dec 08, and would love to find a discount code. Can I make a reservation now, and apply the code later?

Thanks!

At the very least, book it with AAA and get their discount. (Anywhere from 10-20%, depending on the room and the season.) Be flexible with your days and dates-- weekends are now more expensive than weekdays (and more expensive to fly as well.)

Check for (or start) a thread on discounts for the month in which you're going... that way you'll know when one comes out.

Consider renting a reservation with a DVC member.

then you have a choice of BCV, BWV, VWL, AKV, SSR and OKW.

no YC - but there is the BCV.

just don't stay on Fri or Sat. those days are twice as much (sometimes even more) than Sun-thurs (leaving on Fri)

there is a rental site here - DVC rental/trades

Ridiculous, even for rack rate. But, as long as people keep booking, they will keep charging it. :scared:

I agree. My Dad and I were talking the other day about Disney and I told him what we paid per night for the Poly and he couldn't believe it. They didn't pay that much for their condo in Kauai. For what we spent to go to Disney we could have gone to Hawaii. Personally I wouldn't want to go to Hawaii - its Disney for me. The prices are crazy but we are considering the value resorts and egads - offsite! The hotels in DTD aren't that far away and even look closer to the action then the values - of course it depends on which park you're looking at. But I think I"d rathar stay at a value before going off site - theres just something about living w/the mouse for a few days.

frist time we stayed at
GF
then the
POLY
then the
POR
then the
CB
then
POP
this year we are going to do the
FW campground lol

any q's

every year we go down in accomadations, partly due to the cost, and other part due to cost lol - no other part due to I guess we are going to be in the parks and stuff most of the time, so as long as we have a room to sleep in we are fine (well this year it is a sleeping bag under the stars lol) :goodvibes

Just made a ressie for next Jan at YC/ standard room only. Price was $495 with tax  !! What in the world is going on with the prices?? I called back to recheck and a different person said, "yes, that is correct." Double checked on the Disney.com site and it says for standard room only. They can't be serious...can they???

Yes, this is why I have abandoned Disney "Deluxe" The only "deluxe" part is the pricing.....:rotfl: (And that's with the "discounts" no way would I even CONSIDER paying rack rate for a Disney room, If I can't get a discount I stay off site!)

Service, not so deluxe
Room, not so deluxe

Price. Higher then the Ritz Carlton (which is deluxe)

I travel a lot and am lucky enough to stay in "true" deluxe or very nice hotels. Disney "deluxes" fail to measure up on every indicator but location and IMHO the mods don't give that big a drop in location vs price.....popcorn::

No one has mentioned the Swan or Dolphin. I used to think I would never stay there since they are not Disney owned, and was afraid I would loose some of the magic by staying there. So we did a split stay with WL, and though we loved WL a lot, we also really loved the Swan. I realize not everyone qualifies for their gov, teacher, nurse discounts, but if you can get one you'll be in the Epcot resort area for sometimes less than half the price of the Disney deluxes in that area. You won't get the DDP or ME, but for all the money you can save on the room alone, for us at least, it is well worth it!

I don't get it.....

2008 Jan rates at YC for standard is 325.....am I missing something:confused3

Is it possible the rates jump by more than 100 dollars in 1 yr?

I don't think any room is worth 780 or 1300 a night:scared:
Unless your in the castle:confused3

these threads make me even happier with my DVC purchase....

Definitely on my list - I neglected to list that one. I would stay here before staying offsite. :thumbsup2

I stayed there just last month.

I think they are are a much better deal. I got a corporate rate that was well over $100 less then the BC/YC for example. Room was much nicer, bed was "Heavenly" not "basic" etc.

I don't think they qualify for "five star", but the pricing is much more line with what you get. I am willing to pay for location, but I am tired of being ripped off by Disney!!!!!

It really depends on the individual whether it is "worth it" or not. The real question is whether you are willing to spend that much on a room. Most folks would say "NO WAY", but that is because most folks don't have that kind of extra cash at their disposal or they can think of many other things they could do or buy with that same amount of money. Some see it as an absolute waste at Disney, because they spend most of their time in the parks and not in their room. Obviously some feel differently, and are willing to pay to stay in the suites, Disney would not have them if they were not being booked.

We are not at a point in our lives where we could justify spending that much on a hotel room, we have spent that much and more on a vacation (my relatives think I am wacko if they are being nice or stupid if they are being mean), but not on a room. If you are a point in your life where you can justify the extra expense, congratulations :cheer2: GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!

1) Rooms are priced at what the market will bear.
2) And it obvious that of lot of people will bear a lot.
3) As long as folks stay, prices will continue to rise.
4) It is just a shame the hourly-CM's don't get some of the added profits.

You can't beat the proximity to the parks that a deluxe resort gives you. We like to start very early, nap during the hot/crowded times, and stay out late. The proximity cuts down on travel time.
We did YC on our honeymoon, but it is too expensive this time around. With DS5, I'd rather spend the extra on him. We are doing WL as a compromise.
