YC price just blew me out of the water

What are the advantages to DVC? Are the DVC resorts considered deluxe? How are the services and amenities?

The DVC resorts are in the deluxe category...
Some are next to hotels....ie WLV, BWV, BCV.....

then there is OKW and SSR which are stand alone DVC's.

there are studios....1 queen and pullout, microwave, 12 cup coffee pot
(which regular rooms don't have)...OKW has 2 queens...no pullout sofa.

1BR and above have full kitchens and a large jacuzzi tub.

IMO the advantages to DVC is I have guaranteed regular disney vacation
at a large savings.....after 7 yrs I would have paid my original costs
in hotel rooms.....the next 30yrs are a bargain.

Yes, this is why I have abandoned Disney "Deluxe" The only "deluxe" part is the pricing

We have too. Thank goodness I can stay at FW and SOG when I want to. Our most recent stays have been at those two and at values (the theming is better anyhow). $500/night is insane. :scared1: We don't stay in the room much anyhow!

I own DVC and I am going to disagree with the first statement here. They are NOT considered "Deluxe" accomdations. Even Disney does not market them that way.

The things that make them "not deluxe" even by Disney standards are things I can easily live with

1. No daily maid service.
2. No room service at SSR or OKW

Bed quality, service and other features are comparable to Disney Deluxes.

TRUE deluxe hotels provide "top drawer" service (Sorry, Disney fails here), Top quality bedding (failed again ) and and overall "luxury" feeling. Disney doesn't do that.

However, I have had mine for years and I consider it "pre paid" Disney vacations and love it!

The price increases hurt frequent vacationers. Folks that have never visited or plan a Once in a Lifetime trip, think thats just what it costs to visit. We make the trip every other year, so we are willing (if we are able) to spend more when we do visit. I'm wondering what I'm willing to bear. How much is too much?

There are fewer and fewer "slow" times of year to visit, with the increased overall occupancy, prices are not likely to decrease.

I hadnt really thought about it that way, but you are right, the price increases are hurting the frequent visitors more. We have probably been to Disney 50 times and will probably go 50 more, so when we do go, we arent about to break the bank to make the trip. For those families who know they wont be back for a very long time, or maybe ever again, they will be much more willing to throw down $500 a night for a 10 day vacation. Unfortunately, for frequent visitors like myself, there will always be more than enough families making their once in a lifetime vacation, so the prices will continue to rise.

I thought they were deluxe.....what category is it?

I don't notice room service....never use it...
Maid service I thought I would miss....It is actually nice to not have
to think about....
Is the room done yet?
should I take a shower....will they be here soon.
Coming back to the room and they are there....so you just stand around.
Nice knowing noone will be in your "home":goodvibes

as for bedding and such......I do think they should get cotton duvet
covers and not the polyester bedspread:scared:

Disney used to market DVC as "home away from home" I think they changed it this year, but not a clue what it's called now.

How are the cabins at FW? Are they worth the $$$?

they are definately roomy, & we enjoyed our stay in one. the surroundings are beautiful, very quiet & woodsy. we found the pool great, not a bunch of "bells & whistles", more akin to swimming in a lake nestled in the woods. you can park your car directly by your unit. and trail's end is one of the most moderately priced eateries in all of WDW ~ good food & variety.there is a beach to watch the water parade from, horse-riding, nature walks.

disadvantages are that you cannot drive your car around the resort (to retain the natural beauty & peacefulness), but there is an internal bus system (as well as the external that provides trans to the parks). also, golf carts are available for rent. we found the resort just too secluded for our tastes (b/c it is so unique, i think everyone should try it for themselves:) ).

in all, the homes are an excellent option for additional room.
personally, we have DVC now tho, & find the DVC resorts fit our vacationing "style" better. feel welcome to PM if you have any other questions ~ hth :thumbsup2
