Just made a ressie for next Jan at YC/ standard room only. Price was $495 with tax  !! What in the world is going on with the prices?? I called back to recheck and a different person said, "yes, that is correct." Double checked on the Disney.com site and it says for standard room only. They can't be serious...can they???

Sounds awful especially for value season. We love BC and that is one of the reasons we have AP's (to hopefully get a room discount, which we always have been able to). Do you have AAA? That would at least be something off.

That sounds like rack rate. I made a ressie (long time ago) for a one bedroom at OKW and paid $425. Because it was so far ahead of time, there were no discounts available. This was rack rate. As discounts came out, I called an applied them. Dropped my rate to $384 with AAA discount. Then AP rates came out. Changed to a studio (just dd18 and me) and dropped down to $149 a night.

Forgot to add that we leave next Saturday (12 Jan 2008 - 19 Jan 2008). I did the same as you. Booked WAY ahead of time before there are ANY discounts.

you could book a 5 bedroom villa for that & pay for pool heat & daily cleaning. perhaps even hire a chef for that daily rate!:rotfl2:

I totally understand your shock! We paid $430 plus taxes ($510 plus taxes w/o discount) for our Contemporary Atrium Club room last month with AP Discount. For us, reality has definitely hit and we can't ever justify paying this much again at Disney. It was worth it, but just barely..........! MK view was wonderful, Christmas decorations were beautiful, room was huge but never again.

Discounts are the way to go but don't count on them. We never found any for our early October 2006 trip - no AAA, no AP, no nothing.

I guess my shock comes from this years value season price was $325/night compared to $440/night for 2009 :confused3 . I just called again to make sure they didn't put us in concierge by mistake...nope it really is the price. I would really hate to see the price for the Poly or GF. I do have AAA, AP,a good leg and a slightly used kidney for discounts if they come out :lmao:

Rates for 2009 have not been published yet. If you make a reservation for '09, you will be charged some "average" rate for your deposit (though it looks like they are using '08 Peak Weekday). When rates are published, your total will be adjusted up or (in your case, hopefully) down.

But, prices are only going to go up. In FY07, Disney's resort occupancy rate was 90%. That's phenomenally high, and it means there is room to raise prices further to increase RevPAR.

That is a good point, I had not thought about that, thanks

We just got back from the BC 2 weeks ago and paid $245 per night with an AP. It more than paid for itself this trip alone!

Jan prices this year.

WL Standard $212
VWL 1 Bedroom - $340
BWV 1 Bedroom - $348

All with AAA discount.

I am sure you can do much better as it gets closer.

What is sad......

Is 75% of the people who stay at disney resorts pay rack rate. I talk to some many people who have done a disney vacation and paid rack rates, or stayed of property because they didnt know you could get a better deal.

That is insane! We stayed there last Oct and paid $359 a night and DH was telling me I was crazy! I would stay at the Swan before I paid that again

so, how do you find the discount rates? I've read through the info on the top of the resorts section, but all I was able to find are threads about people hoping to find a code for a certain month. Others have codes because they are FL residents or annual pass holders.

How does a "normal person" find a discount code? I am about to book for Dec 08, and would love to find a discount code. Can I make a reservation now, and apply the code later?

Thanks!

Stay on here or check sites like Mousesavers for discount codes available to the public. Make sure Disney has your email/address for possible pin codes (no guarantee but can't hurt) and you could always call CRO and ask if there is a code in your name (that's how I got the 40% off code last year). If you make a package reservation, you can apply the code later if it comes out.

Is this near MLK weekend? I did see that that weekend is now considered differently than other dates in Jan. We went years back and thought it was a great time to go, with low crowds and cooler weather. But it seems the last few years the parks are crowded and I think Disney saw an opportunity - along with the marathon weekend - to make some money during an otherwise slow time.

As others have said, keep shopping around and hopefully you'll get a better rate. Look to the Dolphin or Swan also. They are right next door to YC, and you could probably pay loads less!

so, how do you find the discount rates? !

First you have to understand, discounted rooms are made to fill partially booked resorts.

"Codes", "Sales", "Discounts", usually open up 60 - 90 days out.

So, you can either wait to book your trip untill a code comes out and adjust your air and suck accordingly, or book now, and hope a discount comes out for your trip you can apply later..thus reducing cost.

Either way, you have some risk.

mousesavers.com is a good resource for discounts.

Ridiculous, even for rack rate. But, as long as people keep booking, they will keep charging it. :scared:

Thanks Tnkrbelle565 and GQ's Ghost! Appreciate the info. I'll probably book now and keep searching this site and mousesavers for codes to apply.
