Well, it looks like we'll be headed to the YC or BC from around December 13th for 3 or 4 nights. Which is the better choice and why? How is SAB? Are there slides? How are the rooms, sizewise, compared to AKL or CBR or POR? And what are the balconies like and the standard views? Thanks for any help you can give me!!:D

Hi Patio:wave:

We will be at YC December 10-15. We love the BC, but chose YC because all interior renovations will have been completed there. I understand they gutted the rooms, repainted, new furniture, etc. Beach Club renovations are scheduled to begin in October and take many months. Didn't want to deal with any paint smells, scaffolding, etc.

For you the choice might also be what rooms are left using the code found on www.mousesavers.com.

Just got back from a three-night stay at the Beach Club. (I haven't yet stayed at Yacht Club.) Here's what I liked about the Beach Club:

1. Essentially, you're right around the corner from Epcot International Gateway entrance. (Yacht Club is a bit farther.)

2. The colors in the rooms are bright, with "Hidden Mickeys" in the bedspreads.

3. The rooms are significantly larger than CBR and POR. Nice, "airy" feel to them, with lots of space. (Okay, I was the only person in my room, but it was still pretty large.)

4. Stormalong Bay is arguably Disney's most popular pool. It does have at least one slide. The pool is very spacious.

Here's what I didn't like so much (though the gripes are minor):

1. Didn't like the "snack tray." It's wide open with lots of tempting snacks. The minute you succumb to the temptation, of course, you're charged for the snack. For example, a can of Pringle's Potato Chips cost 7.49. The locked fridge with the booze and sodas didn't bother me, since I could close the door of the armoire and forget it was there. I could see the "snack tray" being particularly annoying for parents traveling with their children.

2. My balcony, which overlooked the Crescent Lake main entrance, was just large enough for one person to stand on it. (However, it seemed that most of the other balconies were full-size.) So, that feature was useless to me.

3. The wake-up call wasn't from Mickey.

Otherwise, I loved Beach Club.

Hope this helps you in making your decision.

Josh

As far as size goes I have never stayed at a mod so I can't compare them, but I have stayed at AKL. The rooms at YC and BC are bigger then the standard rooms at AKL. The standard rooms at AKL are 344, the rooms at YC and BC are 381.

As far as which one to stay at, that is really a decor decision because they are essentially the same besides that, the YC has a boating/nautical theme and the colors are a bit darker. The BC has a beach theme and the colors are lighter - seafoam green and peach.

The only other difference is that the YC has full size balconies with all the rooms. The BC has some smaller - walkout balconies. I have stayed at BC many times and always noted on my reservation that I wanted a full balcony and have always gotten one.

The pool - stormalong bay is the best one on property. It is completely sand bottomed, it is considered a mini-water park. It has a 150 foot slide that goes from a "pirate" ship to the water. It has several fun areas, one called the sinking sands, another called the bubbling sands and a few others.

One of the best things about YC and BC is that they are literally a 5 minute walk to the back door of Epcot and a 20 minute walk to MGM. You can also take a boat to either one if you want.

Have fun!

My vote goes to YC! We have stayed at both YC and BC. We found YC to be a little quieter and thought the CMs and service was outstanding. The BC just seemed busier/louder to us and the service was not as good. Could have been just the CMs we had on our particular visits. Not sure what impact BCV now has on BC since it's right next door. SAB is fabulous. Our kids (8 and 10) love it. It also seems to me that YC has better selection of standard view and I think all rooms have full balconies. One last consideration would be the renovation schedule at BC. It is supposed to start in Oct. and go until ? The YC renovations should be done by Oct. Good luck and have fun!

Both look like wonderful resorts, I'm actually trying to figure out which one I want to stay at on my next trip! The Yacht Club is more formal, the inside actually reminds me of our country club (w/o the golf). The Beach Club is casual and more fun, a little more relaxing. I'm not sure which I'll choose, both have their perks. I'm leaning towards the Yacht Club as I think I like the way the building looks a little better than the way the Beach Club looks. :)

Both resorts are conveniently located to the BW, MGM and Epcot. You can't beat the location. You are also a stone's throw from probably 30 or more dining options.

Both the YC/BC have rooms that are larger in size than AKL, or CBR, but only the YC offers full size balconies with all their rooms.

SAB is a big draw and is a wonderful pool! As mentioned above, there are many areas; sinking sands, whirlpool, deep lazy river area, and two slides - the large one from the pirate ship to the main pool, and a smaller one in the pirate ship that empties into a smaller kids pool.

The YC is a more 'stately' resort, where as the BC is more 'casual'. The color decor at the YC is a bit darker, (lobby mainly, which is gorgeous) and nautical in theme. The BC has lighter colors and is a beach theme. Some think that the YC is more snobbish, but that is not true, the lobby area just seems to be quieter than the BC lobby. The CM's at the YC are great and go the extra mile.

All rooms at both the YC/BC have the mini bar with a selection of drinks and snacks that are steeply priced. You are paying for the convenience, but you can opt not to take a key for the refrigerator portion of the mini bar.

So after all is said, my vote goes with the YC, but then again I am partial to our favorite resort! :D:):D
