We are considering a quick trip Aug 11-13. I see that yacht club is under refurb but according to a few websites it might not be on the rooms at that point. Anyone have any ideas about what kind of construction to expect? Would you still book?

Every room in the resort is undergoing refurbishment, and they have thus far finished the 5th (top) floor and are said to be currently working on the 4th floor. Disney is usually pretty good at keeping guests away from heavy duty work, and only do a handful of rooms at a time. You do run the risk of being near said work however. In addition, the counter service restaurant Captain's Grill and lobby bar, Ale and Compass are undergoing heavy duty renovations. There is a new quick serve/grab and go available in the gift shop, and Yachtsman Steakhouse and Crew's Cup lounge are open for food. The convention center in front of YC is also undergoing a relatively long refurbishment.

In all, there seems to be heavy duty construction going on around the resort, so the short answer to your question is that *I* most likely wouldn't book there this calendar year, but it depends on your tolerance for seeing construction/walls put up etc. A few years back we stayed at the GF when the lobby was under heavy construction, and while it was a bummer that it wasn't at full operation, we really got over it pretty quickly.

The pool will still be there though, and that is pretty spectacular!

Captain's Grille which is a 1 credit TS has been/will be moved to the BC . It will be in what used to be Ariel's at the BC next to the Martha's Vineyard bar near Cape May. From what I have read the one major change will be no buffet breakfast option. When you check in ask if there is work going on near your room , we stayed at a resort in San Diego where they were doing refurbishments. They told us when the work was going on on our floor. It was during the 9 to 4 period so since it was DH & I it wasn't a problem . If we had young children who needed to nap that might have changed our tune.

The YC/BC thread has up to date reports on the refurbishment process.
There is a report today that the 4th floor is also complete and they are currently working on the 3rd floor. They expect to be completed with the room work in August

There was a recent thread from someone who stayed at Yacht Club in the last few weeks that included a video of the construction and it looked like an AWFUL experience. Their room was literally shaking during the day from jackhammers. If you aren't going to be in your room during the day no problem, but we almost always stop by during the day to freshen up, rest, etc. If the video is representative of what to expect then there is no way I'd book a room during construction (and YC is our favorite resort).
