Maybe it's because the concierge service on the Disney Magic was fabulous. Maybe I caught them off guard. Maybe a million other maybe's.

We arrived at the Yacht Club after disembarking from the Disney Magic, sea legs and all. The valet people were quick to get our luggage unloaded from the limo and on to a luggage cart. When they saw we were concierge guests, they took us right up to the fifth floor.

Both concierge's were with other guests, and we wandered into the lounge to look around and maybe get a small snack (we had just had breakfast on the Magic not two hours earlier, so we weren't really hungry.) The lounge was very nice and roomy. There was plenty of room to display the food offerings, as well as some comfortable, albeit very formal looking furnishings. The Admirals Club has a dress code to an extent--no bare feet and no wet bathing suits. I'll admit one afternoon my sandal clad feet and damp bathing suit with cover-up went in, poured a glass of wine, and quickly retreated to my room. I promise I didn't sit on the upholstered furniture. :) The food offerings were pretty standard fare, they did have the Nacho's and salsa at lunch. Many of the desserts in the evening had nuts, or had been served with a utensil that had been used to serve foods with nuts--for those of you with allergies.

After a few minutes, I went back out, and both concierges were free. I walked over to the one, and introduced myself. I handed over my credit card, and we got registered. Our room wasn't ready yet, which we expected (although they were under 50% occupied…). We were given Key's to the World cards and off we went to Epcot.

The strange thing is, we were never given information about the dining reservations they had made for us (I've always gotten a print out from the other resort concierge's on checking in). We weren't given any additional information, such as when the lounge was open, etc.

My husband asked the concierge if she would mind calling the concierge at the Polynesian to see if an item he had lost there a week earlier had been turned in, and she agreed to do so, but never did. If she did, it wasn't ever mentioned to us again.

I couldn't remember what time our dinner was, or even where it was. So around 3:00, we headed back. There were different people at the desks this time, and they gave me a printout, as well as an envelope with our name written in beautiful calligraphy, and a chocolate welcome gift. Inside were the dining reservations as well as information on the Admirals Club. I also asked for a favor, which was granted by one of them (I'm not sure which one) later that evening.

We went to our room, which still smelled of new paint. It was large and lovely with white and maple (or maybe it was a light oak--sorry, I'm not good with wood) furnishings. It was clean, and the furniture in good repair. We hadn't been given the key to the minibar when we checked in, I sent DH to pick one up, as sometimes when I wake up during the night I want something from it. The room had two queen beds, a dresser with the minibar built in, and the television on top. A comfortable but stiff from being new easy chair and ottoman. And an interesting desk/table combination that I took a photo of and will post as soon as I get the film back. The desk had electrical outlets I imagine to plug a laptop into, but there was no phone jack there, so you still have the problem of having to work from the bed. There is no chair to sit at the desk/table with, which we thought was very odd. (A side note, the Beach Club Villas are the first WDW property that has truly taken care of those who travel with laptops. In the master bedroom is a desk. On it there is a reading lamp, a telephone with modem jack, and electrical right next to the desk on the wall. Hooray!!) There was no daybed in the room. The bathroom was split with double sinks on the outside and a toilet and tub inside. Lots of space to store shampoos and stuff in the tub. The clearance between the bathroom door and the toilet was so tight that at the tightest point my DH couldn't slip a credit card between them. The amenities were Mickey Mouse style, soap, shampoo, lotion, mouthwash, toothbrush and toothpaste.

The toilet ran constantly. If you jiggled the handle it would stop for a minute, but then would start again. That was the only thing that was wrong with the room.

All in all it was an OK stay. We didn't find most of the concierge staff to be overly friendly, although there were one or two that were. Not sure that I would stay here again, I prefer the BWI for that area, and prefer the Poly and AKL overall for concierge service.

Thank you for the review, Anne. So, would you stay at the Yacht Club again, and just not on the concierge level? I'll be staying at the Beach Club next month, non-concierge, and am looking forward to my stay. :)

Anne,
sorry your stay wasn't up to your standards. We were there a week before you and had a wonderful time. Here is my review on it. YC concierge review August 18-25

We arrived at 11:30am and our room was ready. We found all of the concierge staff to be really friendly and always willing to help.
We found our itinerary waiting for us in our room.

I just find it amazing how from one week to the next you can have a totally different experience and I am not just saying you. I see it all the time on the boards.

Hope your cruise and your stay in general at WDW was great.

I appreciate the thorough review. It really gave me a flavor for the room, especially. We aare Poly people but I am always tempted by the BC/YC. Threehearts

We stayed in the YC Concierge for 9 days in August and found the staff there to offer no value at all. The main issues:

-no attention to detail
-little or no knowledge except what appears in front of them on their screen
-lack of motivation
-seven requests for info & reservations during our stay were never followed up

We had stayed at the YC & GF Concierge several times (last time prior to this visit about 2 years ago) and had wonderful experiences. But, you can be assurred this current problem with the staff is not going away anytime soon.

The food and room were acceptable, but not stellar.

wow, I'm sorry to hear you didnt have a great experience w/the concierge at the YC. I have stayed there 3 times, and each time have had stellar service. They have always been extra friendly and made us feel so welcomed, and spoiled too!

I'm going to go look for your cruise review! I'm going in 12 days! :)

12 days til 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise on Disneys Magic!:D

In complete contrast to our YC concierge, our two trips on the Disney Magic over the past three years were stellar in all categories.

The three recommendations I have for the cruise are:

-if you have a strong seating preference (seating, your own table, next to windows, or all of the above), then give the maitre'd $60 on the 1st day with the request; it will happen.
-get an open-air couples massage on Castaway Cay
-If you are stopping at St. Thomas, go spend the day at a beach in St. John (preferably Caneel Bay; they allow guests on their main beach)

Have a great time!

why thank you for the cruise tips!!! I appreciate it!
I think I will especially take your advice on tipping the maitre de for a nice table for 2 by a window :)
thanks!

the open air massage I plan on doing! :) hope I get to the desk in time to book it! :)
thanks again!

12 days til 7 day Eastern Caribbean Cruise on Disney's Magic! :)

You might want to take a look on the cruise boards, I've been slowly posting a day by day trip report about our Magic cruise.

One thing I forgot about the YC...I picked up a pair of DH's shorts that were laying on top of a suitcase, and there was a large roach under them. That was pretty skeevy. I've never seen a roach at a WDW property before, and the fact that it was on my semi-open luggage and could easily have hitched a ride home with me was really gross.

Anne

Anne, I'm not much of a bug expert, but there was either a roach or a palmetto bug in our bathroom when we stayed at AKL this summer. I quickly threw a white towel over it and wadded it up for the maid to take away. I thought to myself, "No, I'm at a Deluxe, this can't be a roach."

Thanks for your review of YC Concierge. We actually had reservations this past August at YC Concierge, and had to cancel because of DH's business trip to LA. We ended up in DL with Hilton Concierge and that turned out better than expected. I would like to try YC sometime because of the proximity to Epcot, but don't feel like I need to do concierge there.

I believe "Pandora's Box" was opened in Orlando! I have never seen so many Giant, Flying Roaches...or Palmetto's...or Whatever they are!

Back to the YC concierge. We stayed here years ago, after staying at the BC CL. We enjoyed the YC, but preferred the BC. I spoke with a family this summer, who actually moved from the YC CL to the Dolphin due to numerous problems upon check-in. They did not elaborate, and I did not ask. When we stayed at the YC CL, the Concierge associate printed a full page of our requests, schedule and itinerary. It was very nice and organized, permitting me to cancel well in advance if our plans changed.

I would have been disappointed as well. We were on the 7-night Western this summer, and the service was astonishing. I am saddened I was not informed of the $60 maitre de trick on the first eve! We would have enjoyed dining alone. We mixed well with one couple, but the other family of three were "oddballs" and a bit socially inept. I am not pretentious in any manner...they were absolutely wierd. The other couple experienced problems with them as well. I prefer to dine alone, or "select" to dine with familes we meet, etc. I know this is not feasible with the dining set-up. But, breaking bread with these three night after night, attempting to make "small talk" for the sake of sanity, was downright disparaging. It's the only "negative" which comes to mind when I recall the cruise.

Again, I'm so sorry to read the YC Concierge did not meet your expectations. I certainly hope you have written a letter to WDW resorts operations/customer service regarding this stay. Thanks for your enlightening post. ;)

Nah, I'm not going to write a letter on this one. It wasn't that they did anything really wrong, it just wasn't the level of service and friendliness we've gotten from the concierge at the AKL, Poly and BWI. It was MUCH better than the concierge service at the GF, which was pitiful and downright rude.

Anne

Ducklite, I haven't been around the Dis much within the past several weeks, so I'm playing catch-up tonight. I enjoyed your YC review. I would love to see your photos, so if you have them posted, please let me know where they are (hint! hint! ;) ). By the way, welcome home!

Thanks for the candid, detailed review. Sorry to hear it wasn't the most memorable of visits though.

I just remembered a couple of other things...

The first night, around 5:30 pm, the power went off. I mean in the entire hotel, completely, except for essential services (elevators, phones, hallway lighting, door locks, etc.) which was being run by a generator.

I was in the shower when it went off. Imagine standing in a completely dark, strange bathroom... Luckily I was finishing rinsing off, and was able to grab a towel and lean out and open the door a bit to let some light in. I was really scared of falling in the dark...

I threw on a robe and called the concierge desk, figuring the breaker had blown for my room. They told me the power was out for the entire resort, and they had no idea when it would come back on.

It did finally come back on, over an hour later.

We saw a LOT fo guests leaving the hotel, obviously after being turned away for dinner at the Yachstmans Steakhouse.

I'm not blaming the hotel for the outage, but it wasn't teh best start to the trip. I also wish they would consider installing one of those bathroom nightlights that absorb light and then glow in the dark to give off a little light in every bathroom at WDW, just for situations like I was in.

Anne

I have tried the YC in a concierge room and a regular room. Both times I have been disappointed. It just doesn't have the same feel and the other deluxes. It is a beautiful resort.
One of these days we will have to try the Beach Club Villas. Maybe we will enjoy them more. Thank you for the report.

We were at the Beach Club when this happenened and it hit that hotel too. Luckily I had just finished drying my hair becuase we had Victoria and Albert's reservations that night and I would have been extremely upset to have missed those. We can sympathize with you though becuase my DH ended up having to shower in the dark as well.
