Maybe it's because the concierge service on the Disney Magic was fabulous. Maybe I caught them off guard. Maybe a million other maybe's.
We arrived at the Yacht Club after disembarking from the Disney Magic, sea legs and all. The valet people were quick to get our luggage unloaded from the limo and on to a luggage cart. When they saw we were concierge guests, they took us right up to the fifth floor.
Both concierge's were with other guests, and we wandered into the lounge to look around and maybe get a small snack (we had just had breakfast on the Magic not two hours earlier, so we weren't really hungry.) The lounge was very nice and roomy. There was plenty of room to display the food offerings, as well as some comfortable, albeit very formal looking furnishings. The Admirals Club has a dress code to an extent--no bare feet and no wet bathing suits. I'll admit one afternoon my sandal clad feet and damp bathing suit with cover-up went in, poured a glass of wine, and quickly retreated to my room. I promise I didn't sit on the upholstered furniture.
The food offerings were pretty standard fare, they did have the Nacho's and salsa at lunch. Many of the desserts in the evening had nuts, or had been served with a utensil that had been used to serve foods with nuts--for those of you with allergies.
After a few minutes, I went back out, and both concierges were free. I walked over to the one, and introduced myself. I handed over my credit card, and we got registered. Our room wasn't ready yet, which we expected (although they were under 50% occupied ). We were given Key's to the World cards and off we went to Epcot.
The strange thing is, we were never given information about the dining reservations they had made for us (I've always gotten a print out from the other resort concierge's on checking in). We weren't given any additional information, such as when the lounge was open, etc.
My husband asked the concierge if she would mind calling the concierge at the Polynesian to see if an item he had lost there a week earlier had been turned in, and she agreed to do so, but never did. If she did, it wasn't ever mentioned to us again.
I couldn't remember what time our dinner was, or even where it was. So around 3:00, we headed back. There were different people at the desks this time, and they gave me a printout, as well as an envelope with our name written in beautiful calligraphy, and a chocolate welcome gift. Inside were the dining reservations as well as information on the Admirals Club. I also asked for a favor, which was granted by one of them (I'm not sure which one) later that evening.
We went to our room, which still smelled of new paint. It was large and lovely with white and maple (or maybe it was a light oak--sorry, I'm not good with wood) furnishings. It was clean, and the furniture in good repair. We hadn't been given the key to the minibar when we checked in, I sent DH to pick one up, as sometimes when I wake up during the night I want something from it. The room had two queen beds, a dresser with the minibar built in, and the television on top. A comfortable but stiff from being new easy chair and ottoman. And an interesting desk/table combination that I took a photo of and will post as soon as I get the film back. The desk had electrical outlets I imagine to plug a laptop into, but there was no phone jack there, so you still have the problem of having to work from the bed. There is no chair to sit at the desk/table with, which we thought was very odd. (A side note, the Beach Club Villas are the first WDW property that has truly taken care of those who travel with laptops. In the master bedroom is a desk. On it there is a reading lamp, a telephone with modem jack, and electrical right next to the desk on the wall. Hooray!!) There was no daybed in the room. The bathroom was split with double sinks on the outside and a toilet and tub inside. Lots of space to store shampoos and stuff in the tub. The clearance between the bathroom door and the toilet was so tight that at the tightest point my DH couldn't slip a credit card between them. The amenities were Mickey Mouse style, soap, shampoo, lotion, mouthwash, toothbrush and toothpaste.
The toilet ran constantly. If you jiggled the handle it would stop for a minute, but then would start again. That was the only thing that was wrong with the room.
All in all it was an OK stay. We didn't find most of the concierge staff to be overly friendly, although there were one or two that were. Not sure that I would stay here again, I prefer the BWI for that area, and prefer the Poly and AKL overall for concierge service.
