Check out the link above to the OC Register. They also have a nice slide show of pictures from yesterday!

The new red monorail had a soft opening last night, and Disney hopes to have it taking guests around the resort this weekend. Here's to hoping they don't have issues and it will be running throughout the days ahead. Let's also hope we get to see the new blue Mark VII taking passengers much sooner as well!

exterior looks nice, I'm not liking that seating arrangements I can see people sliding side to side, and what if there's something behind you that you want to see, you'd have to look over someones shoulder. but any change is a good change.

thanks for the link

From the article:
While some people who went on the first red monorail trip seemed to think it was just another monorail, some guests were thrilled to be on the new train.

“It was air conditioned and it was pretty,” said 8-year-old Bethany Masten from Sacramento. Masten and her family were on the first public trip with the new monorail.

Did they add air conditioning, or was the 8-year-old wrong?

Looks nice inside. Maybe I missed it but did it say if each car on this one holds more people? It looks like it would. Sometimes we would wait forever. Now if they could only find a way to make it stop at the surrounding hotels!

I haven't read anything about added air conditioning -- only the new vent boxes on the top of each car.

It's been reported that the monorail's guest capacity is the same.

It looks great !!! I love the color :) I can't wait to see it in October !!!

I like it too. I actually don't like the seating either, because you can only look out one side at a time. The old one you could turn easily and see both sides.

Oh well. At least it has air conditioning! :)

It's beautiful! Thanks for the link. Guess we'll have to ride twice to get to see both sides LOL.

It doesn't have air conditioning in the main cabins (only in the nose and tail cones for the pilots -- but even that wasn't working last night). That is one of the reasons they have put off opening it for so long. They did install air scoops in the tops of the train so that there is more air flow, but I imagine it will be quite a toasty ride in the upcoming summer afternoons.

Rode it this morning - still has that new Monorail smell! It was running intermittently - couldn't take it back to DTD later on.

The bench seating gives you a better view - there's never anyone between you and the window, and no need to crane your neck, unless of course it's the view behind you that you wanted to see.

Is it wheelchair accessible?
It seemed to me there would be room in the new configuration for wheelchairs on each end of the bench, but I can't say for sure how they'd handle it. I'd be shocked if they didn't accommodate them somehow.
