YAY just bought SS points! now what?

HI! I am so excited. we just made our first fam trip to WDW and bought SS springs points (most economical) from timeshare store.


We have to use 113 banked points by june 1. escrow will close early sept and i will have my member number by mid sept (hopefully). do i have a shot at all at getting anything at thanksgiving (actually like the week before and flying home on turkey day)???

Congrats on your purchase! Thanksgiving is one of the busiest times of the year and I highly doubt that you will be able to get anything on this short notice. It is incredibly important that for busy times of the year you are able to book at least 7 months in advance, but even better if you can book 11 months in advance. In the meantime, if you think you are not going to be able to use the points, you can always contact a point rental broker such as http://www.dvcrequest.com/ to help you in renting out the points.

I think there is no chance thanksgiving or the week leading up to it will have availability in late September, for anything other than a single day here or there.

If your heart it set on going then- if it were me, I'd book a cash reservation somewhere and try to move to anywhere DVC for a day or two on either end of your trip. Then modify the cash reservation based on your DVC set-up. This is easy to do, even if you're using Disney transportation. You just check out of resort #1 in the morning and leave all your bags at bell services. Go to the parks all day and take transport back to your new lodging. Your bags will arrive there magically. It's kinda awesome!

As to your separate but related issue, you will have no problem at all using those points by June. There are plenty of lower demand seasons after New Years- and you will have a couple months of home resort advantage, even if your points aren't loaded until October 1. Have fun planning!
