Yay! I'm all for this new CA law

I'm not sure if I have ever had a hotel add on fees that were not shown upfront. Desert Inn does have a few taxes and a parking fee, but it's almost a perk for us at this point because then we just subtract the cost of parking and it feels like a discount lol #girlmath

Trying to think of the other hotels we've stayed at: Courtyard by Marriott Theme Park, Camelot, Tropicana, Desert Palms, Super 8 (King's Inn), Hyatt House Convention, Del Sol...I don't remember any of them having resort fees. Maybe some of the newer hotels that have been built more recently.

I guess it would be nice to have taxes included in the nightly rate, especially for the on-property hotels. It always shocks me when I get a rate for $714/night and think, that's not soooo bad then go to the next page and it is actually $834/night with tax. Or when you have a 4-day for like $4,500 and it ends up being ~$5,300 lol

We don't want the cost per night for everyone to include a parking fee.
Not saying to build it into the room rate, just saying they need to disclose it up front.

We had a whole dispute with Doubletree earlier this month because I booked thru hotels.com and their fees info specifically says the hotel will put a hold on our credit card for $50 per night deposit for incidental charges or damages. And then it states there are “no other charges disclosed by the property”.
But when we checked in we were told there was a $27 per night parking fee that would be taken out of the deposit. Doubletree says it’s not their fault that hotels.com doesn’t list it. Hotels.com says that they disclose all fees that the property tells them about. So round and round it goes and I’m left paying $27 more per night than I planned on.

Oh man, that's exactly what this law is for! I'm sorry, I misunderstood. It's so shady to add parking/resort fees (and come on, a resort fee at Anaheim Hotel?) that aren't clearly shown in the nightly rate.

Maybe one day they'll address the taxes hotels charge and make it more transparent as well.
