DS lost his job last year when his company folded and he has been unemployed ever since. DS has about 2-1/2 years experience as an asst manager and 2 years of college, no degree. He's gifted salesman and a good manager, so this job search has been pretty devastating. Today he had an interview with Publix and when he showed up, he learned he had gone to the wrong Publix. He was dressed nice and the manager said, well, they had an opening in the Deli. So DS went to the Deli and met with that manager. She drug tested him and offered him a job on the spot! He starts next week! Already he's planning to take advantage of their management training so he can move up.

DS is so stoked and I am so proud of him. He totally deserves this.

Grocery store management can be VERY lucrative :thumbsup2. Congrats to him.

Did he call other other Publix and let them know to not expect him? :rotfl:

Congrats!!!! Jobs are scarce.

While it is wonderful that he got a job, please explain how the Deli Manager was able to Drug Test him? I have sent plenty of people for drug testing, it has to be done at a lab, by a trained medical technician, and the results are usually not known for a week at the soonest.

I don't know. She did the inner cheek swab and she's sending it off. The results will be available next week. But he's clean, so no worries.

Depends on the type of test the company wants done. I can do oral swab testing that gets sent off to a lab. Some companies require blood/urine testing and those have to be done by tester with a different type of training but if they are just checking for the basics (drugs) easily handled by someone with a basic 30 minute video training.

Congratulations!

My ds (27) has Asperger's. Even though he has a college degree he had a hard time finding a job. He ended up with a job at Shop Rite and it has been the best thing. He has really good benefits and makes a decent salary for a single guy.

Your ds must be so excited!

I am glad he is finally working.

She really had him piss in a cup at the grocery store? I have had all drug tests administered by a place where protocol had to be followed. Temp of the urine was taken, seals put on in front of the donor, no touching the sink until after, toilets that run with blue water and many signatures. There were forms to fill out about meds etc. that could cause a false positive. This test was not legit.

Minky already said they did a cheek swab. No cups needed.

Minky I'm really glad for him and I'm seriously considering applying at my local grocery store too. :)

My company also uses the cheek swab for drug testing new employees. Also I must say I've heard Publix is a terrific company to work for, good for him.:)

Congrats, but since no one else has said it I will. I doubt I would hire someone who couldn't even make it to the right store for his interview.
