We have been watching airfare for the first week of December. The tickets were kind of sitting at $242, and since this is supposed to be the "quick & cheap" trip we were going to cancel if they didn't come down. I just booked for $193!!! We're leaving about an hour later than I wanted to leave (8 AM instead of 7 AM) and we're coming back at 2:40 PM instead of 4:10 PM, but it is better than having to cancel! I might have been able to get the other flight times for just a bit more (like $6 more per ticket) but I got so flustered when the prices dropped I didn't even try! I just wanted to get those tickets locked in before they went back up! The info changed every time I hit "refresh" so I was getting panicky! :bitelip:

Way to go!!!!:thumbsup2 Don't you get jelous of the posts where people get tickets for $49 one way, and we sit here at DFW just praying they go under $225. I have already checked dates for our next "after school" trip in 2007, yep, $352 pp. I was so desperate, i checked Greyhound!:rotfl: Spread a little of your pixiedust: pixie dust my way.

Have a great time!

Lucky you, good going! I still need to buy airfare for a person who's decided to go with us in Sept. We bought our tickets for $212.10 a couple of months ago. They are now $261.10 but change daily from $261.10 to $310.90 for the flight we need.

$212.10 is the fare we got for December. The tickets for our August trip were $250 but we bought them LAST YEAR. I am TRYING to learn not to buy airfare the minute we know our travel dates. I want to teach myself to watch the fares, not freak out if they go up $10, and wait until the discounted fares are offered. The problem is we travel at all different times of the year, so I never know if there will be lower fares. :confused3 I almost had a heart attack when I looked at Thanksgiving week - $900 PER PERSON!! Luckily we are going the week after since DH was able to get the time off from his job.

FWIW -
I always check the American site first. When I saw the fare for Dec. 2 was down to $225 I went over to www.kayak.com and did a search that brought up flights for $218, then $212. At first it was only through Orbitz, but then within a minute American matched it. Which was unfortunate, because American guarantees their website will have the lowest price or you get a $50 voucher. :rotfl: But now I get the 1000 mile bonus for booking with American online.

Good luck, everybody! Every once in awhile I see DFW to MCO for $178, but those are usually at times that are harder to work with.

Yes, we got airfare for $178.00 last Sept. Unfortunately as you know flying out of DFW we don't have alot of choices when it comes to airlines, so American can charge just about whatever they want. If airfare goes down below $212.10 we usually grab it. That's what we paid Jan '05, May '05, Dec 05, and Jan '06. Sept '05 we paid less and May '06 we paid a little more.
