DH got a promotion! YAY! I am VERY happy for him! This is a great thing, he will have much more control over his own paycheck now, this is terrific!

BUT this alters his schedule. At his company they bid for vacation in November for the entire following year. They promised this promotion won't have any impact on our August trip because 1) it is only 75 days away and 2) it is paid for. Not to mention that he has been working straight through since his vacation last OCTOBER with just his regular days off. He needs that August vacation! :teeth:

He was supposed to be off the first week in December, and we were planning to go to Disney. Now he doesn't know WHEN he will get his second week of vacation for 2006 because they have to see where there is an available week. DH doesn't get how I can be happy about the promotion and frustrated about the vacation time. We need to get moving on plane tickets and MVMCP tickets if we are going! I want to know WHEN they are going to let him know when his second week will be so I can plan. The other thing that is kind of a bummer is that the guys pick vacation in order of seniority, so when they bid for '07 he will be dead last. He will have to take whatever weeks are left over, which could mean we can't travel in '07 if his weeks are when DS is in school. Last year he was in the middle for seniority and we still ended up with the first week of August which was his 6th choice. For next year we may be looking at his 38th choice!

I am sure somebody else understands that I can absolutely be happy about his promotion and sad about the scheduling. Right? :confused3

Congratulation on his promotion! I know how you feel though, my husband is going through a job change and the not knowing part is very frustrating :furious: .

I know how you feel my job is the same way with the whole senority picks. My guess is he will get the first week in Dec. off. I always do and I am # 49 on the senority list. (three people can be on vacation at the same time) Nobody ever takes the first 2 weeks in December except me! I guess I am the only one who goes to WDW! Congratulations on the promotion.

TOTALLY and COMPLETELY understand. DH works in a Union shop, and they choose vacation in order of seniority.

So the guys that have been there forever, can choose all 6 of their weeks back to back to back, and chew up most of the summer. And they are only allowed to have 3 guys on vacation at the same time. So, DH figures it will be another 4 to 5 years before he even has a shot at summer vacation weeks. He's about in the middle of the seniority list, so he is able to get the 2 weeks he needs for our annual February vacation, but he gets 5 weeks total, and it would be REALLY nice to be able to do something else, as a family, during the summer.

Congrats on the promotion, and you will get used to the schedule, I promise

See? I KNEW I could find other people who "get it"! :thumbsup2

I'm not sure how many guys can be out each week. There are 14 weeks blacked out, so they only have 38 weeks to choose from. I think the most senior guys have 4 weeks of vacation, but they can't choose all "premium" weeks. Premium weeks are the ones over the summer and around holidays IF the holidays aren't blacked out. I don't know if they are allowed to take back to back weeks or not. Since DH only has 2 weeks he can choose 1 premium, 1 regular IF there are any premium left.

I don't mind taking DS out of school, but we can't take him out during state standardized testing and we can't take him out for more than a couple of days or the truancy board comes after us. (Like they did last time. )

So we'll see. It just KILLS me to be sitting around not knowing when and IF we are going to be taking a 2nd trip this year. I'll cross the '07 bridge when we get there in November, but right now it would be delightful to know what we can expect for DH's 2nd week in 2006!
