Yavn Speaks- 8/06

Well Disney just aquired Club Penguin, and now VMK central and in park quests are going away...Will VMK Central be replaced by Club Penguin Central? They have a much larger member base over 200,000 paying accounts and who knows how many free accounts, hmm. Will Penguins be waddlling around VMK or will we wake up one day to find we have been converted to PENGUINS, ahh!!!

I think alot of us saw this coming with WDW. It was just a matter of time after it happening at DL. Sorry for those that can't make it one last time before it closes. And FINALLY something about those seaonal mickey items though! Hopefully we will see them sold in game. I know I have access to DL at any time but I would rather see us all be able to get the items in game instead. And LOVE the outfits! As well as I'm really glad to see so much being released again at this time as well (baseball stuff). Look forward to trying out the new game. I'm hoping it won't be to difficult to do. ;)

LOVE the new outfits!!

Not surprised at the closing of VMK Central at WDW...kinda figured that would happen with the closing of it over at DLR. Fortunately I'll JUST be making it in time...our trip is September 12-18. I better start printing stuff out now before I forget.

That said, even though I'm not surprised...I can't say I fully trust Yavn's word when he says it isn't coming to an end. While adding in small things into the game is always fun, slowly taking away big things is never good.

I feel like an absolutely horrible person. As soon as I read the name of this thread, I immediately went over to VMK.com to read it for myself before getting the vibe of what others were saying.

As soon as I read that WDW-VMK was going the way of the DoDo, I snickered. I felt vindicated. I felt that, for once, VMK did something fair.

The reason why they had Quests at both DLR and WDW was because they are on two different coasts. There is one Disney park that people can get to easier than the other. That's just how it works.

I have a DLR AP. In a month and a half, I will be able to go whenever I please (unless I have my Intro to Oceanography Discussion). I am a DLR person through and through.

Do I want to go to WDW? You bet your butt I do! Is it easy? Hades no!

When they announced that DLR-VMK was packing up without a reason, I felt betrayed. It told me that VMK was truly looking at it as though VMK was a Virtual WDW Magic Kingdom. For a long time, I had a sneaking suspicion that VMK was treating WDW better (the Thrillseeker's Quest comes to mind). I had been to DLR twice in two months, and nothing had changed with regards to the Quests (still only two quests). I knew it then that DLR-VMK was dying. Yet, they kept giving out stuff at WDW-VMK. It didn't seem fair to us West-Coasties.

Now I read for my own eyes, that everyone is now on an equal playing field. MK and DL are now equally bereft of quests.

I feel sorry for you WDW-ers, just as you felt sorry for us in our time of need.

But you must admit that this is fair.

I know I made no friends by this post, but at the very least, consider the DLR-ers. Consider our despair when DLR-VMK closed up shop. You've had four more months (add a few more months with regards to the "quests" that we had at DLR) to enjoy filling out quests and getting that Red Space Suit and AK Room. When the DLR-ers were told, we got less than a month to go out and get... the HSM room, Animated Quest, and Pirate Quest?

WDW-ers should consider themselves lucky.

But as to whether or not VMK is dying, I will refrain from speaking. Those that have listened to how I have tooted my horn for the entirety of this summer will know my opinion on the matter.

I agree with alot of what you said. I'm 100% DL girl and so is my family. We are APers and have been for years now. We are a short drive from it (20 minutes) and really have had no desire to go to WDW when we have one so close to us to visit whenever. I know that not everyone can do that. I can imagine how those must have felt about not being able to get whatever in-park items themselves cause they couldn't go and had to trade for things if they wanted it. As it is even though we have DL here I think it was a bit unfair to put the sub middle pieces here. What about those that can't go? It was really not right. I do think with how things were divided between the theme parks wasn't fair but that seems typical with Disney no matter what when it comes to them. We DLers feel your pain.:grouphug: And yes it is fair and something I think all should have seen coming at some point in time. It was just a question of when it would happen and we now know. :sad2:

I don't know much of anything about card trading games, but I wonder if we'll be playing it one on one against other random VMK players. If so, I hope there is NO chat! Or if there must be communication, please let it be a SpeedChat system. People get enough abuse in Pirates and Mansion. :headache:

I love the Hawaiian shirt and dress, but I like the shirt more. I hope girls will be able to wear it too, but the fact that there IS a dress makes me suspect that the shirt will be boys only. :sad1:

I bet I get matched up with all the Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon addicts...

Wow! Didnt see it coming. But since we saw nemo cards quickly at DLR and since I get one more run at it soon, I personally am not going to sweat it. I will take more pictures this trip tho thats for sure!!!!
Make sure you send me your pictures plz..

I love the new Hawaiin shirts and the new Leroy from Leroy and Stitch Hat, the turkey cart looks a little weird. The trading card game looks cool too and I hope they release that test track stuff I noticed a red bell boy outfit in the background also a Mr.Toad wild ride car on the cards. Very very very mad at WDW VMK Central closing as I am going at start of October so will miss it and I had so many things to hand in :(. I think they should sell the new mickey items rather than in-park events.

I comes as a bit of a shock to me, since I was told this summer they were moving vmk central to Space MT area.

Make sure you send me your pictures plz..

I will post them here for everyone to enjoy. That way some can reminisce and the others can see for the first time a part of VMK history.

I agree that we all knew it was coming. After DL closed it WAS only a matter of time. It sucks though that my family and I won't be able to complete the quests in time as we are going in late November.

Also I agree with Pirate-Emery about how unfair it was at WDW to have more time for the quests than DL. But as for VMK "liking WDW better" I think that's a bitter statement. What about the 50th Celebration Quest, huh? Those items are AWESOME, the lamp and director chair? I'd gladly trade a Kali Couch and AK Room Code for both!

As someone mentioned before, that Turkey Cart looks a little off, like a weird prop from a 1950's film. IDK, could have just been the pic.

As for the Hawaiian costumes, the wannabe- Lilo costume looks ok, but I absolutely LOVE the boys top!! (So jealous! :snooty: )

The Trading Card Game looks and sounds FANTASTIC! I can't wait for that RED Stitch Hat. I don't think it's pink, it looks RED, lol. :) But I cannot bear the wait because I am a Trading Machine! lol

But also, when talking about the Baseball Costume, does Yavn mean the Red Baseball Costume? I like that VMK is rereleasing items, (especially ones that I don't have) But for Red Baseball, will it go down in trading value? Like in the Stock Market, should we sell, (or in this case trade) our item before it's too late? Or is it possible that Yavn is referring to a new color suit?

Anyway, those are my thoughts. Overall this was a good refresher after a while of not hearing from Yavn.

Hi,

I am not 100% convinced that the items we see on the cards are going to be items we get in game. They could be just graphics on the cards like normal playing cards and have nothing to do with prizes we get. Just a thought before we get to excited over a red stitch hat. I am not surprised that VMK central is closing. I knew it's days were numbered when the one in DL closed. But I am also not convinced that VMK is not going anywhere. I have a gut feeling it's days are numbered too despite what Yavn says in the newsletter-seems like they are going out of our way to convince us that all is fine. This is after all Disney and they can pull the plug on anything at anytime. Now that they own Club Penguin with 700,000 paying customers look at the new advertising base they have. Why do they need VMK.......

I am not sure, but maybe VMK will expand to other Disney Stores and other chain stores everywhere.

I know somebody brought this up before, but why not have VMK Card Packets that are sold like Trading cards- Some have codes and then others don't. They have this for Sports, Pokemon, YuGiOh, and even Webikinz!

I think if VMK did this it would be a great move for them.
OR
At least expand to Disney Stores everywhere- some people don't have the opportunity to go to Disney every year, but have a Disney Store near them- Why not expand and share the "glove" :rotfl2:

But it's not just every year: according to the Seasonal Cards theory, we were supposed to go to the parks at least 4 times a year.

Aww man well it doesnt make any difference to me really because my family decided to go to disneyland instead but i can say i did see it comeing. Im sorry for folks who planned to go to WDW after the 30th :( thats a bummer. Maybe ill organize a room on vmk for a going away party for it if anyone wants to please respond so i can make it. and of course it will be held on the 29th of september.

ALSO : the other stuff looks cool like the tiki shirts and all that. this month has been so great so far! Im going to be upset when i leave in 2 weeks for disneyland i dont wanna miss anything. Well it looks cool and the baseball stuff thats EXTRA sweet!
