Yavn Speaks 11/13

Turnstiles, Tracks, Pins and More! Oh My!

Turnstiles: The Sequel

Where to start? Well first, I've gotten lots of comments (good, bad and confused) about the new Turnstiles. Part of this is my fault for not giving you more details of exactly how they work. So to make things easier I've made this handy Turnstile FAQ to help ease the confusion:

***Turnstile FAQ***

The Epcot Turnstile

Why Turnstiles, Why???

Why use Turnstiles? When we first launched the Quest kiosks many players complained that the cost of prizes outweighed the benefit of making Quests — agreed, having good prizes is tough and costly. There was also the issue of the same player finishing the Quest multiple times using different characters. So we thought why not let players charge for their Quests? After all, wouldn't you want to be rewarded for creating cool games and rides?

How Do They Work?

Room owners set the cost of the Turnstile. There are 4 possible settings (Free, 5 Credits, 50 Credits and 100 Credits) — we're still testing if this is the right price range. Once the Turnstile is set up in the room, players can get in line and will see a menu showing the price to enter. You have 15 seconds to decide if you want to pay or not, if you don't answer in that time you'll be removed from the line and not charged. Remember before you play, you will be able to enter the room and see prior to paying what you are paying for. In the case of a Quest kiosk you can click on the kiosk and see what the prizes are before entering the Turnstile.

Do I Have To Pay?

No. You have a choice. You can either pay the entry fee or exit the Turnstile.

What Happens If I Get Booted?

You can re-enter the a room without paying for 2 hours from the time you paid. And rest assured, we'll be watching for players that charge you entry and then boot you.

Won't All Rooms Charge?

No. We believe once players understand what is worthy of a fee, you'll see the majority of rooms are still free. Do you know a player who is a great Quest maker, or a great ride builder? These are the players that should be rewarded for their hard work! At the end of the day it's you the players who will determine what is worth charging for (and how much you'll pay for it).

When Can I Buy One?

There are a few things still to work out with this new system, so we'll be testing Turnstiles over the next few months. We may sell or reward a handful of them, but they won't be on sale until we're happy that they work correctly and we can support them.

Pirates + Pins + Disney + VMK = Awesome!

You're a Pin Collector? And you play VMK too? Well have I got a surprise for you! Allow me to present the new VMK Pin Card Collection! These awesome pins will be arriving at Walt Disney World on 11/14 and at the Disneyland Resort on 12/12. Each box set contains two (2) randomly inserted Collector Pins and two VMK trading cards which include a secret code redeemable for special virtual prizes. There are a total of 10 Pins and Cards in the set and the cards and pins in the first series are based on Pirates Of The Caribbean. You may recognize a few of them as previously released Park Quest only items — but there's some pretty cool new stuff in there as well.

We won't be having turkey but we've got something better. You'll have to wait until next week for a sneak peek at that.

Enjoy the game,

The only thing that stinks is that we can only have 3 rooms. I already have almost 5. Well guess that was a waste of track peices and the weekend in the ride event.

Thanks VMK_KrazyLuke for the posting. And another fine posting it is from Master Yavn. With something that may have such potential for abuse I'm glad they're taking their time releasing the turnstiles. I'm looking forward to getting one myself. It would be nice to get a little kick-back. And I think for a ride free or 5 credits is good. A quest maybe 50-100 depending on prizes offered.

I'm so excited about the pins/cards. For those who don't know this thread has been talking about them for a while and includes pictures! I'm a huge pin and VMK player so this is the best of both Hobbies. I'm happy to get the opportunity to get old and new stuff. Yay!

The competition sounds great! And individual one even better. While teamwork is great it's tricky to coordinate larger parties. And I while I think up to a five room ride would be acceptable, three I think is actually perfect! Hmm... now I got to play Fireworks and get up those credits to buy me some ride pieces... :teeth:

The Movie Rewards look great. I'm one movie (Robin Hood!) away from getting my code. Can't wait!

Oh and Thankful to hear they didn't forget about Turkey Day. Gobble gobble gobble!

I'm also happy about the Behave playing Pirates warning. 'Bout time VMK starts paying that some attention!

you can always donat peices to me,a nd the unluckey ppl foundation... lol

I remember when we got a sneak peak of the theater system a month ago. I thought it was pretty sweet.

I'm disappointed by the three room limit but will cope. I had planned four to seven rooms depending on my time and credit total. I already built two rooms which are funny if you know the inside jokes. I hope I can tweak them a bit to be more complicated. I have a few ideas already and some time to think about other possibilities. Hopefully I can come up with an idea for a start/end room that is more creative than I planned. Then again, it's probably worth entering the contest just for the participation prizes, assuming there will be some. My goal wasn't to win the contest, it was to provide a ride for my friends about special moments with qruthie. I can still do that but I need to scale back my plans quite a bit.

I'm glad they are waiting to release the turnstiles. It's a great idea for a turnstile and it is a great benefit to quest makers to be able to charge for their quests. I think they are wise to consider the various scams people could run. My only experience with paying to play a quest in QA_caffdawg's (sorry if that isn't spelled right) room. I paid the 50 credits - the prizes were worth it. The unfortunate thing is the quest ended before I finished it because all the prizes had been won. I don't believe I received a refund of my 50 credits. If I didn't, I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. I paid to play the quest and only for that reason so no refund seems like I got ripped off. On the other hand, when you play a quest, there is no guarantee that you will be able to complete it so I might have lost my credits anyway.

Of course the pins are great. I collect pins anyway and I collect VMK cards so it's a big win for me!

I'm so glad I listened to my consience. I have 4 rooms now, and was going to make 3 more this weekend, but thought it would make more sense to just wait... now I have to decide which room I should get rid of! I'm thinking I'll put it back together when the ride competition is over, because that way I didn't spend 15,000 credits on something I'm just going to sell. I wish we were able to make more, I love room building, and it's the best expirience I've ever had. Personally, the staff shouldn't be judging it because their rides seem to be very small and exactly the same in every room. I can add so many decorations I'm extremely excited!

About the pirates, this is the best thing ever. No more bad people trying to dicionary dance at us, no more name-calling, and most of all, NO MORE LIST OF WHO TO NOT PLAY AGAINST!! I can't wait to get back in my normal groove, maybe we should all take back what we said about the staff when they were getting rude and such, they must have felt our pain and decided to do something about it.

Last but not least, the turnstiles...

I think they have a great idea when it comes to testing them out for a while more, and also that they will ban anyone who continuously boots people, because these were the major problems we worried about. The staff are very smart when it comes to designing, i just don't know how they do it! :faint:

Well, I think my fingers will fall off if I type any more :lmao:

See you all in the virtual world,
Lion

I hate the randomness. I dont mind getting one of each but will want extra of the chairs. I feel like I might get screwed with extras of the hats or silly pins. I already have all of the other RECYCLED pirate stuff from a year ago and don't need or want more worthless bird hats or prison rooms. I thought they were retired, never expected them to be regurgitated into a "new" promo.

Well I am too disappointed in the three room ride limit I would have least liked 5 one for the start room 3 ride rooms and a end room. I just wasted so much on credits thinking five would be a good number. But I too will cope. :guilty:

3 Rooms is kind of low a start, ride, then end is just not enough I can't work with that people! LOL I hope yavn meant that it is 3 Ride rooms so we have a Start, 3 Rooms Max then End it would be much better.
~Spongeblair

I am happy with the 3 room limit. I barely have any credits, so now I am reasurred. I will have enough time to get right amount of credits for three rooms, and enter the competition after all! :cool1:

Right now, I am at about 4300 credits... a I guess I need to play a few more fireworks...

Think about it though. If you use the space you the majority of the space in the start room, middle room, and end room with the ride and decorations it can turn out to be a great ride. I have seen people make fantastic rides and they only used one room.

How long does VMK usually take to respond to a Contact Us question? I sent them one regarding the room limitations, and I just hope I hear back quickly so that I can fix my rooms if need be.

I stopped at three rooms with anticipation to add the locking space doors. Can't work without your tools!

And no turnstiles for this competition? What's up with that?! That reminds me of Eddie Murphy's, "I got some ice cream" bit.
