Yard sale question: 1 day or 2 days?

Please help!

After my last one, I swore I would never do another garage sale -- except maybe the "no more babies" one. Well, baby #2 came along last summer. Unless God has other plans, we're done! So, I've decided to do the sale.

Lots of questions:

Should I do 1 day or 2 days? I've never done a 2 day garage sale before, but I know a lot of people do. What about the times?

Pricing on baby clothes? (and other items -- where do you find your pricing?)

Convince me one way or another: price on each item of clothing or one price for each KIND of item? I've seen people suggest each one on other threads.

Thanks so much for your help!!!!

1 or 2 days--depends on where you live--yard saling is HUGE here and most people are wiped out on Day1, with no stuff left over for day 2. Also, Saturday is the big yardsaling day here--that's the day most people are out looking, so most people have them on Sat. only.

Friday and Sat sales are very popular here, but I did just Sat and did great. I didn't want to drag everything in and out 2 times. Good luck with yours.

Around here many start on Thursday and run through Saturday. The vultures....errrrrrr I mean the antique dealers usually arrive bright and early and sit with their hands on the car door handles waiting for the garage doors to open. :p Some don't wait and will ring your doorbell an hour before you're ready to open asking about a specific item they want. Last time I posted a sign at the end of the driveway "No Early Sales" so that helped with that problem. Our best 2 weeks are the week before and after July 4th. The second day is great for marking down all the stuff you absolutely do not want to keep. I usually post a sign that says Saturday will have big discounts on leftover stuff. I've also seen in a little classified ads paper people advertising they'll buy lots of garage sale leftovers too.

As someone who goes to tag sales each and every Saturday morning (to look for good eBay finds :-) )... I would say that Saturday only is fine. Most of the stuff is going to be sold between when you begin and about noon, after that it's really just going to drag. As for Sunday then, I'd say it's not really worth it.

As others said, it probably depends on the area, this is just what I have seen.

We had our yard sale last weekend, Friday and Saturday. Made more money and had more customers on Friday that on Saturday, even tho Sat's weather was much better--it rained on Friday.

I marked all my stuff down on Saturday morning hoping to get rid of it. I was doing the "no more babies!" sale also.

Good luck, Steph
