Yard Sale $$$$:Please share your best tips

Would any of you sell a crib and changing table at a yard sale? My husband thinks I should try a consignment shop for those items. He thinks we'd get more money. I just want to get rid of everything since we're building a new house. He wanted to save the crib and table for our boys. But I know if I were their wives I'd want to go and pick out my own stuff. I can't believe how sentimental he's being. It's kind of funny.

It's nice to hear that your husband is sentimental. I'm the same way. If the items are nice and you can find a corner in the attic for them, by all means save them. Even if your boys don't use them 20 years from now, they'll be a conversation piece.

My mother had saved my crib and we did use it for our oldest. I bought a second one when we had two in cribs and used the newer one for kids three and four, but the one I slept in got put back in the attic.

I wish I had more family pieces. My parents are both long dead and neither had anything from their own parents. A few family heirlooms would be nice. My husband has a bed and sofa from his grandparents that we treasure even though the bed is in storage and the couch is not comfortable.

I won't sell my crib in a yard sale, or a consignment store, or anywhere else, because my dh made it for my 1st ds. I'm the sentimental one here. My MIL still has DH's crib (he's 28 and the oldest of her 4 kids), she uses it for my kids when they're out there.

We only have one consignment store here, but she charges a 50% commission, so I'd do better in a yard sale that to sell with her.

My yard sale is tomorrow and Saturday, and it's supposed to RAIN. Ugh. Yard sale permit has been bought (our town requires them), newspaper ad and ad-taker ads have been placed and paid for, and now it's going to rain. Wonderful. I'll post how it goes, even if no one wants to hear it, I may have a total to be proud of.

Good luck tomorrow, bigbabyblues! If it's cloudy or just spritzing, you may still get a lot of customers. It's good to have a Plan B in case the weather doesn't cooperate. Always very tough to predict since you have to plan these things in advance.

Thanks pygmymom, I'll take all the good luck I can get tomorrow! Not only do I want the $$$ for Disney, we are planning to move to a smaller house fairly soon, and I don't want to move all this extra stuff.

I'll post how I do!
