OK when we get back from Florida - the DS wants to go to a Yankees game over Easter weekend and I want to see a show. Should we stay in the Bronx and drive into Manhattan or stay in Manhattan and get out to the Bronx somehow? Not taking the subway either, never have and I don't want to.

Honestly, the subway is the BEST way to get there. I'm not familiar with the stadium as I haven't been there since I was young, but noone I know would ever even consider driving there as traffic/parking just isn't worth it.
Not trying to change your mind, just letting you know ;)

I know it is the best - I'm just a weenie, never been out and quite frankly scared to try! I used to take the sub in Newark, it was horrid. How much would a cab cost from midtown?

LoL I understand, subways are definatly not meant for everyone!!!
Not sure of the current cab rates, but I'll ask my brother or father and see what they say :)

Don't know anything about the logistics, but here are the new cab fares from last week, effective in May...........

Enjoy the game and the show.

My friends and I do this at least once a summer(Go Red Sox) and we usually stay in Manhattan and take the subway,we have been surprised at some of the really good rate (for NY) we have been getting in NYC and right on Time Sq. The subway never seemed as bad as the horror stories we had heard probably because its full of fans going to the game.

Trust me. You don't want to stay near Yankee Stadium. The subway will take you directly to the Stadium and if you are going to see a game you will have plenty of company. Just follow the mob. Unfortunately, I don't which subway line it is but I'm sure the hotel can direct you (or we'll get an answer here any minute now).

You could take a cab. Getting there shouldn't be too much of a problem. Getting back could be tricky since you'll have to hail a cab and pay the fare for sitting in the stadium traffic to get back into Manhattan. I'm not sure of the logistics in terms of how big a crowd will also be trying to get a cab back. There are also parking lots and garages all around the stadium. But, same story, getting back can get very confusing as you are sometimes herded in a direction opposite of where you really want to go. Could be very confusing for a first-timer.

Just put my thinking cap on: Here's the info from the Yankees themselves on driving and subway. (No cab pricing)

Yankee Stadium

Dan if they are playing the Yankees I'm in. I have a list of stadiums I want to visit - that is one of them.

You don't want to stay in the Bronx, or anywhere near Yankee Stadium.

Stay in Manhattan and take the train up, during game hours it's fine.

If you are willing to even consider staying in the Bronx near Yankee stadium you are not a weenie

Get a hotel in the midtown Manhattan theater district and take the 4 train uptown to Yankee stadium. You will be there in 15 minutes for $2 and it is perfectly safe with the crowd. I am sure that your friendly hotel doorman can get you there. My guess on cab fare is $15 - $20 each way.

Come on, Philly is way tougher than NYC for sporting events.

Philly fans are tougher, that is why we stay away with our Yankees gear on!

I can't even think of a decent hotel anywhere near Yankee Stadium.

If you've got your car, there are numerous secure garages in the area of the stadium and half the NYPD in on detail during a game.

honestly though I've never had a problem with the subway.

Stay in NYC. Take the D train from Columbus Circle (59th St.) to Yankee Stadium. If you are getting to the city by train, take the 1 and 9 or A and E train from Penn Station to Columbus Circle and transfer to the D train. Hope this helps.

Another vote for the subway. It's loaded with Yankees fans in both directions.

Another vote for the subway! We've never had a problem with taking the subway, any time, day or night (and some very, very early mornings ;) ) DS-4 LOVES the subways. Plus driving around the Bronx and the stadium is a nightmare, especially for night games!

BTW, tickets can be hard to get especially on weekends and holidays. I just tried, for curiousity sake, and thebest tickets available for Saturday were up in the tiers. Very high up. Good Luck!
