Poor thing, he's going through a rough patch. Literally. He's been wearing a Transderm Scopolamine patch for about 5 weeks, the kind you use for sea-sickness. He uses it to dry up his mouth. Due to his many seizure meds, he drools copiously. I don't mean a little dribble--it's like a constant 3-ft long string of drool hanging out. It's very off-putting and nasty.

Anyway, we've noticed that the times when he has accidently pulled it off too soon(and we didn't notice it) he has developed vertigo with severe vomiting. It took me awhile to put 2 and 2 together, but I believe he is experiencing withdrawal syndrome(headache, nausea, vomiting. Duh!) Not only will he not leave the patch on, now he's getting very irritated behind his ears from the patch.

We have decided to take him off the patch permanently. We're just going to have to live with the drooling until something else can be done. The options are Botox injections to his cheeks :scared1: or surgically removing some of the salivary glands (see why we went with the patch?) In the meantime, I've given him a large dose of meclizine and he is feeling pretty bad. I'm just waiting for the puking to start.:scared:

If you have any kindly thoughts or prayers for Christian over the next week or so(it can take awhile to get it out of your system) we'd appreciate it. I think we're in for a hard week. I wish you could see him, all slumped over on the couch surrounded by towels...:guilty:

Oh Minkydog, your poor son. I hate seeing any kid sick and this sounds like a no win situation. Hugs and pixie dust coming Christian's way! I hope he feels better quickly.

Aww, poor Christian and poor mom! I would think the meclizine would keep him from vomiting. Hopefully it will kick in and make him feel better soon. :)

Wow, I will of course send along some good wishes and thoughts for Christian.

I've been feeling sorry for myself taking care of my boys while DH is away for a month in China but your post put it all in perspective - I know you've got a lot on your plate yet you get up every day and put a smile on your face.

Hope the next few days are better.

Oh that poor baby! I'm so sorry you guys are going through this. Can he possibly take something to get him through the withdrawals from that patch? Something to ask about - just a suggestion, but it is a miracle drug. It is called Emend and I swear he would only need one pill to feel better. Maybe you could just ask his doctor if its an option.

I hope this is short lived and he feels better quickly!

Definitely sending some prayers to you and Christian both! Poor guy. I really hope he is feeling better soon, that must be rotten.:sad1:

Ds17 has a good friend that has a condition-they have never been able to really diagnose what it is but they treat him like he has mild Cerebral Palsy. He gets Botox injections quite frequently in his legs because of muscle tightening. They have changed his LIFE. His mom blesses the day they started those treatments with him. He went from having severe leg pain pretty much all the time, having to wear braces all night so he could sleep to nothing-no pain, no cramps, nothing. It might be work investigating this.

I hope Christian feels better either way--I HATE feeling nauseous.

on the vinegar thread, some one mentioned using 2oz of vinegar in 8oz of water to offset an upset stomach. He might not be happy with you for it, but it's better than the alternative. The topic was holy cow! What difference vinegar makes, to find exactly what they're talking about.

So is this what caused him to be so sick last month?? You didn't sound like that was a fun situation to be in, but you're well prepared for it this time.

My brother finds spit to be the most highly amuzing thing out there. He's not a heavy drooler, but he'd rather play with it in his fingers than swallow it. So extra rags are always a must. When he was younger he'd wipe his own mouth off every time we'd tell him that was gross.

Just as an FYI - I used Scopolamine patches on 2 occasions when traveling (I get motion sickness), and both times when I took them off, I was absolutely debilitated with vertigo and vomiting! It was horrible! So I've definitely been there (and I will never use the patches again). Hope things get better soon!
