Yak and Yetti? Thoughts?

We always dine there on AK day. Sometimes for lunch and sometimes for dinner, but it’s always a must do.

We ate at Y&Y last year and are going back to Tusker House this year instead. I love chicken tikka masala and have had it everywhere from my work cafeteria to authentic Indian restaurants in the Indian neighborhoods in Chicago. What I was served was nothing like chicken tikka masala I’ve ever had anywhere else. It wasn’t bad exactly just not what I was expecting at all so it was very disappointing.

My family has enjoyed our lunches there. Consistently has good food and service. Our go to AK day meal.

We're from Chicago too. You probably aren't going to find the kind of authentic ethnic food we can get in Chicago anywhere in Disney. Most of the restaurants serve Americanized versions of ethnic food and tons of people still complain that it's too exotic. They have to cater to a wide audience. I've heard people describe Yak and Yeti and Skipper Canteen as "adventurous." If you read reviews of Yak and Yeti, one of the dishes mentioned most often is the burger.

The tikka masala I ate at Y&Y was similar to the versions I’ve had at Whole Foods and Costco, except much better. The spices in the dish tasted freshly ground, and the house made naan bread served with it was excellent.

I had the Kobe burger this year to try something different, and it was fabulous. I mean, really awesome.

The restaurant’s food, service and decor/theming are outstanding. I loved sitting upstairs next to a window and looking down at the park.

This is exactly the kind of experience you should expect at Yak and Yeti.

It wasn’t even about it not being authentic - my work cafeteria is Americanized and not exactly made with fresh ingredients. It was more that it wasn’t tikka masala at all. If others have had typical chicken tikka masala there then maybe they ran out of something and subbed out an ingredient that night or served me something else entirely, thinking some people wouldn’t know the difference anyway, but the server introduced my plate saying it was chicken tikka masala. It had chunks of chicken but the sauce wasn’t the creamy orange color - it was much darker, reddish-brown really - and much thicker than nornal. It tasted nothing like I was expecting.

I'm in the minority here, but I had the food on my last trip (2016) and none of us enjoyed it. I'll have to agree with the folks from Chicago (live in NJ get great Indian and Chinese food here as well as Thai and Japanese). I wanted to like it, but it wasn't anything special. Also agree that a lot of Disney Dishes are missing the flavor that make them great elsewhere. For our upcoming trip my husband wanted a reservation here again because it's the "best" option in Animal Kingdom for a TS meal (especially if you're on a dining plan), but then remembered that no one but him liked their dinner (he had the duck). We switched over to Tusker House to get in another character meal for the 3 year old's first visit. I am not saying that Tusker House is better than Yak & Yeti, but if it's disappointing at least the little one will get to see Donald and Mickey again.

I'll say it. Tusker House is better than Yak and Yeti if you're looking for something other than the usual chain restaurant. At least they have a decent wine list. We had a great dinner at Tusker House, but then they turned it into a character buffet for dinner too and we've been there, done that when our kids were young. It isn't that I don't like Yak and Yeti. We love all the Landry's restaurants for what they do best - generous portions of good quality food at a reasonable price (especially the burger). But if you go there expecting Asian or African fare, you may be disappointed.

Best non-signature TS in AK in my opinion.

Love the steak and shrimp, as well as the Miso Salmon. Both are excellent.
