Yak and Yeti opening in Somerville, MA

Isn't Yak and Yeti a chain restaurant? Maybe not - but I know there is a restaurant called Yak and Yeti in Anchorage Alaska and a hotel somewhere else in the world.

Yak and Yeti is owned by Landry's. A very large restaurant group with many restaurants all over the country. Not sure how I see that's "riding off Disney's coattails"?

They already have a RainForest Cafe and a Chart House in Mass.

Yak & Yeti is not a Disney restaurant. It is not owned or operated by Disney, but by Landry's Restaurant Group (also the owner and operator of the themed restaurants Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex Cafe).

This release put out by Landry's in 2007

shows that Y&Y is a restaurant "concept" and that Landry's likely intended to open other locations - and the previous poster points out they already have a presence in Boston.

Of course the link in the OP refers to it as a "Nepali restaurant" which is NOT what the WDW location is - it's more of an Asian-fusion place with more emphasis on fusion than Asian - but if the new location is indeed operated by Landry's, it's possible they think city patrons will have a more adventurous palate than theme park visitors. "Nepali restaurant" could also refer to the theme but not the food, because I don't think for a second that Y&Y at AK serves Nepali food.

If this isn't a Landry's restaurant that is opening, I bet they end up getting notice that they have to change the name.

Frankly I would LOVE a Disney restaurant opening in our town! LOL

Just to have a little piece of WDW next door......ah, yes.

Not only that, but that would help narrow down my choices while on vacation.....make my job a little easier. :rotfl2:

That is cool! I have family in Everett, Saugus and the surrounding areas...cannot wait to get them to try the place although there are a million better Chinese restaurants back home!

those are restaurants that stand out, you'd see the facade of those stores and know what you're getting into.

this yak and yeti is between a mom and pop hardware store and a brazilian salon. the 'restaurant' is more of a take-out location than eat in. i just wish they'd change the name. if it was a copy or the same chain - i'd love it! but this is a take-out rip off.

Well if that's the case, and anyone @ Landry's notices - I'm sure they will force them to change the name. A little tiny hole in the wall, though, may never get much notice (unless you do something about that)! :rotfl:

According to Landry's website, Yak and Yeti is not available as a franchise. So unless it is something special, then my guess is that it is not the same.
