What are your opinions of the Y&Y Cafe? Looks cool from reading about it, but wanted to get some first hand opinions. It is sit down correct? Not counterservice only?

Also, are there any interesting / original choices on the menu? Is the atmosphere kind of like spooky back woods asia, like in Mongolia or something?

There's a CS and a TS restaurant there. They serve a few of the same items.

I wouldn't say it's heavily themed, compared to some. They make it look old, but I wouldn't necessarily say "spooky". The food was standard Asian, and it was OK. I've had better, and worse.

But it's nice having another TS in AK, especially one on the Dining plan.

This is my kids' current favorite Disney restaurant. That being said, however, we prefer the appetizers to the main courses offered, and have tended to make meals from those.

We grabbed a counter service meal, there, it was fine. It wasn't, 'Oh, we HAVE to come back here next time,' and it wasn't, 'Ugh, never again.' We're trying Tusker House next trip.

We tried the counterservice too and I was underwhelmed. I got the honey chicken with steamed white rice. The vegetables were so wilted and the chicken was NOT crispy. I assume it had been sitting awhile, So, we are trying the sit down restaurant for our upcoming trip. Giving it another try. :thumbsup2 Even though it doesn't get great reviews, we love the food at Nine Dragons (China-Epcot). The Yak and Yeti menu looks similar. Hopefully, we won't be disappointed. ;)

Counter Service: Mediocre Chinese takeout quality. However, it does offer something different than the typical counter service options.

Table Service: We have tried it twice and probably will not go back for awhile. The portions are huge, the quality is not. The first time, I had lo mein and it had almost no taste. The pho I had on our second visit was inedible. My husband had the ribs and it came out on a serving platter, there were so many ribs! But the sauce was so overpowering that you could not taste the meat. We also tried the fried green beans and they were okay, not great, definitely had better at other Chinese food chains.

Many people have raved about the desserts; we did not try any on either visit.

We've got two days planned at Animal Kingdom, we're doing Tusker House one day, and skipping over to Boma for the other day. We may try Yak and Yeti for another counter service... but if ours wasn't the only bad experience, maybe not.

We ate there last week and it was one of everyone's favorite meal on our trip! I had the ribs and they were awesome! Evan was the best waiter we had on our whole trip!!!

Hmmm - We love the egg rolls at the counter service. We made two trips to AK in Jan 2009 to have them after having eaten them in Jan 2008.

We also did dinner late one night in Jan 2009, walk up, at the TS restaurant. Not only did we really enjoy the food, but our waiter was fantastic!!

And by the time we were done eating (it was evening EMH at AK that day), we had the park to ourselves as we walked out. AMAZING!!!

I have to agree that the appetizers were better than the main course. The Dim Sum Basket was pretty good.

And yes, the CS was no better than standard take-out fare. Table service was a little better. If I hadn't been on the dining plan, I might have been more disappointed.

Other discussions about Y&Y Table Service have had the same wide variation.

Our experience was high quality food but small portions. Not enough to share a main course with our daughter, which is what we usually do as she eats very little and does not want "kid meals."

We also ate at the counter service, which has outdoor seating only and only a few umbrellas over a few tables. The food was definitely underwhelming, served in chinese take-out boxes and all soggy from the steam and juice sitting in the bottom.

Also agree with too much pork in the menu. No vegetable and limited seafood which are my preference.

I definitely feel in the minority here, but we really like Y&Y. In fact, we make a point of going there every trip for lunch. We don't usually eat in the park, other than teppanyaki, and this table service is something we look forward to.

We really like the appetizers best, especially the pot-stickers and the green beans. The tuna and the egg rolls are pretty good too. We generally order 2-3 appetizers and share them between us (2).

In short...is it as good as E&O Trading Company (Asian) in San Fransisco? NO. Does it knock the socks off of our local chinese places. Absolutely. If you want to venture out of the typical park fare, try it.

We did the sit-down part of Y&Y this past trip and LOVED it. The atmosphere is so much fun and the food was GREAT! We are definately going back there.

We love, love  this place. We have not try the cs, but we make It point to eat at the TS there once or twice per trip. some one said the fried green beans where ok?,to us its one of the best apptizers we know of!. The only problem Is that we cant get pass the meals we order:rotfl2:,they are so good. We get the honey chicken and sweet and sour pork and the soup yummmmmmmm!. Never have been disapointed, the CM's are wonderful.Ya the price Is a bit high, but where at Disney and on Vac so who cares But now this Is me and my 16yo DS,we do not have the same taste Buds!! and I would diffnetly recomend It but to say everyone will like It?? no. Have fun trying It.

It was good went twice last year oct and dec. Food was normal Chinese takeout type food but there was no wait and inside is nice. Crazy thing happened after. I payed with a credit card and after that day there was all types of crazy charges on my card for stuff all over the parks. Not saying it was the waiter that served us but. The card. Company took the charges off. When I go back in dec 2010 I will still eat there.

We had the CS in June and both my sister and I really enjoyed it! It was both deliscous and a welcome change

That being said I dont think I would do the TS only because the CS was just as good, WAY less expensive and still more food than we could eat.
