Yachtsmen's or Shula's?

Hi! Please help me decide which 1 to pick. Great steak wanted! And we're taking 3 kids- if that matters- ages 15,6,3. Thanks!

Based on the kids, I would say Yachtsman. Shula's doesn't have a kids menu, and is not known for being overly kid friendly.

Steak wise, I have to give a slight edge to Shula's.

sHULA'S has the better menu and quality of meat IMO. It depends on you though- will your three year old be able to handle a longer dinner in a less kid friendly environment? Shula's tends to get more of the business traveller there so they are a little less kid friendly.

Shulas is definetly better but like the others have said, no kids menu. I've seen kids sharing food in the past but I think YSH is more kid friendly.

Shula's is hands down better. I wonder if you can share with the younger kids since they don't have a kids menu, that I know of.

The sides are all family style anyway.

Shula's is located on the main lobby level of the Dolphin, over behind the Central and West elevator areas.

Shula's has some of the best steaks we've ever tasted, (and believe me, that's saying something... ) But, as stated above there's no kid's menu, and I think your 3 and 6 year olds would be bored silly there, anyways. Not to mention the fact that it is insanely expensive, if that is an issue for you.

If Shula's is five stars, then I'd give Yachtsman about three and a half to four, depending on the night... the quality varies just a little. Still, it's a great place with a little of that 'Disney magic' sprinkled in for good measure...

Never been to Shula's but some reviewers, while they rave about food, complain about how dark it is, so it might not be the best atmosphere for children.

My DH and I had one of our favorite WDW dining experiences at YSH in September 2007. It was just the two of us, and the food was excellent; but there were other family groups around us who seemed to be enjoying it just as much. (It's definitely signature but not stuffy.)

We have eaten (multiple times) at both the Ruth's Chris and Morton's in our hometown and would rate our YSH dinner as very competitive in menu, quality and service.

Being a fan of Mr. Disney & his K-man's dining reviews & their raving about Yachtsman (not to mention all of the delicious food porn they've posting)...I'd be curious to hear their opinions on the thought that Yachtsman doesn't stack up to Shula's, Morton's, Ruths' Chris., etc...

(and FWIW, I mean no personal offense to Peter Pirate 2 for his opinion on the topic, as several others earlier in this thread have posted similar thoughts, I'm really just curious as to the opinion of these other two fine DISers)...

We've not been responding in this thread because we have no actual knowledge of Shula's.

The K-Man and I do have experiences both with Ruth Chris' Steakhouse in CT, Morton's in both Connecticut and Dallas.

Meatwise, and trust me we LOVE our meat....I would say that the YSH and Morton's and Ruth Chris' are equal, both in flavor and quality and presentation.

Having said that, YSH is much more "relaxed" in service than both of the other 2 places in discussion.

My experience with both Ruth Chris' and Morton's is that you would be hard pressed to find children (or many anyway) in their dining rooms. While at YSH, I believe and have experienced that both couples and families can co-exist comfortably as their diningroom is broken down into several different "rooms".

Furthermore, I believe that the YSH offers more value for the $$$ than the other 2 places.

While it would not matter to us, it may to others.....I do not believe that Shula's is on any of Disney's dining programs and I do not believe that they accept the DDE card. (someone correct me if I am wrong).

So...there is my 2 cents worth.....

I agree with Mr D on Yachtsman. YSH is definitely of the same quality as Ruth's Chris or Morton's but in a more relaxed style. We've been to YSH alone (DH & myself) and with family with our 4 yo niece along. When we dined alone we were seated in a quiet area with mostly adults surrounding us & the service was impeccable. With a child along, we were seated in an area with larger groups that felt more relaxed & was a bit noisier. Our niece enjoyed her meal of Mickey Pasta & we enjoyed some fine steaks & wine!
