Yachtsman or Shula's?

YSH offers potato with all of its steaks. They have mashed, au gratin, and a couple of other varieties. You can swap out what normally goes with your steak for any of the other preparations.
Yachtsman has my absolute favorite potatoes ever.... Straight mashed. No garlic, no skins, just butter & milk.

Looks like OP already made their decision, but I just wanted to put in my 2 cents. Imagine that.

While I think Shula's is better, I would never eat there at WDW. Why? I can get Shula's at home. My rule when dining at WDW...don't eat at places that aren't unique to WDW. Yachtsman is still excellent and there are certain aspects of a meal there which are superior, so I'd choose Yachtsman.

If you really like a good filet, I had the best filet of my life at California Grill! I haven't been to YSH or Shula's, but just thought id throw that in there!

I have one more dinner to fill on my trip. I'm doing a split stay in April. April 11-16 will be off property outside of the parks, I'm going for Star Wars Celebration. Then the 17th-23rd will be onsite and in the parks. I have my plans made already for April 11 and 12 before Celebration starts on the 13th. On April 16, the Convention should be wrapped by around dinner time, so I was thinking about making a 7:30 or 8:00 PM reservation at somewhere good on property at Disney.

Throughout my Disney Trip on the 17th-23rd, I have all the character meals and special restaurants I want to try reserved for my Deluxe Dining Plan, but I never really found a place for a good steak restaurant. I looked at Le Cellier for one of my EPCOT days, but then I realized it was 2 DDP Credits, and I'm already doing Cinderella's Royal Table in MK, so I didn't want 2 meals worth 2 credits each.

Which steakhouse would you recommend for dinner on the 16th after Celebration wraps? I'd of course have to find transportation from the OCC to the restaurant.

Thanks!!!

UPDATE: After Looking at menus, and reading majority of the responses on here, I think I will like Shula's the best. Thank you everyone for all of your opinions!!!
Yachtsman has great food. My S.O. is not a Disney person & is well-traveled and not easy to impress, and he said his steak there was the best he ever had. My filet mignon was so tender, it was like biting into butter.

Go to Bull & Bear. They charge more than Shula's because Shula's isn't serving prime beef, it is choice beef.

Between Shula's and Yachtsman, I'd choose Yachtsman because they do have some prime beef.

But in that area I've had better steaks at Il Mulino and the Flying Fish Cafe than either Shula's or Yachtsman.

Shula's is dropping like a rock..... not getting worse, but being passed.

STK and Boathouse at Disney Springs have very good to great steaks.

Capa at the Four Season's has great steaks and an unbeatable ambiance.

Bull & Bear is fabulous.

Il Mulino and Flying Fish Cafe have limited choices, but what they do well, they do very well.

And I like Yachtsman better anyway.

Shula's.....

They know how to do steak.

They do a very good job with the choice steaks they use. I wish they'd bump up to prime steaks or charge less as is fitting not serving prime beef.

Between those 2, I would choose Shulas every time.

TrustTheScupper . . .
1) YES, YES, YES, YES, YES.
2) YES, YES, YES, YES, YES.
3) And, when checking-in at the podium, request/DEMAND "Perry" as your waiter !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4) I am sorry, but in my opinion, forget the term "Server", I want a "waiter".
5) To us, there is a major difference between a Waiter/Waitress and a Server.
6) And, Perry brings back the old-fashioned meaning of a Waiter versus a Server.
. . . great personality
. . . serious and meaningful entree recommendations to fit your individual tastes/preferences
. . . in our case, he remembers our favorites, and even asks if we want something different or "Your Usual".
. . . how many people have this kind of service, at an eatery ?
. . . and how great does it make you feel special that a Waiter remembers your choices/preferences?
. . . frequent during-meal stop-by inquiries to on food quality
. . . constantly looking your way to see if you need attention, and waiting for a SMALL finger-motion to stop-by
. . . talkative, but not overburdening with meaningless conversation
. . . and, he doesn't try to tell you his whole life story, like other "Servers" !!!

NOTE1:
If you are there when Perry is off-duty that night, take any other waiter, BUT NOT Thomas !

NOTE2:
It carries no weight, but I wish Sheraton and Swan/Dolphin would use Perry as a trainer to show other Waiters how to treat/serve people.
I have only said this about one other waiter/waitress in all of WDW.

1. WTH is wrong with Thomas? LOL!!!! I need to know now!
2. And then you don't tell us the name of the other waiter/waitress in all of WDW who is Perry-level?

I'll tell you ours: Ce-Ce at Hollywood Brown Derby. She was there for two of our trips, in 2011 and 2013. We did not go to HBD during our 2015 trip (actually, chose Shula's instead, and we were *not* sorry!). I can honestly say that she was our favorite server ever (I was a server/waitress/bartender for 15 years and couldn't care less which term is used), at any restaurant anywhere. So much so, that after having her as our server during our 2011 trip, we canceled a reservation for another night and came back to HBD on the stipulation that Ce-Ce was our server again. She was. We loved her. She has earned many awards/recognition from the company, and they are very well deserved.

Our favorite bartender is another story. Mickey (haha) works at the Poly, and the bartenders there switch posts between Trader Sam's, the pool bar, and Tambu. We had him three times, at Tambu and TS. Down to earth, regular guy, very funny, very good. He's still there, because I saw a TS post on Twitter recently with a pic, and there he was, photobombing the folks at the bar!

Sorry to hijack the thread (it's the Scupper's fault).

Thank you everyone for all of the responses. I will be sure to keep the tips in mind and look out for coupons!

WTH is wrong with Thomas? LOL!!!! I need to know now!

1) We had him twice.
2) The first time we thought it was a error, then we got him, again.
3) Oops.
4) We were treated like, "OK, older folks. No or little tip coming my way. They don't need attention."
5) And we got terrible service (and, we were not the only ones, as other tables in his "zone" had older folks).
. . . He didn't even explain the meat cuts available (a MAJOR part of the Waiter presentation!).
. . . He didn't talk about the daily specials or soup until we asked.
. . . He didn't come around, EVEN ONCE, to see how our meal was progressing.
. . . He stopped by the adjacent table 3-4 times during the meal to see how the YOUNGER COUPLE was doing.
. . . He, literally, ignored all three tables with older folks, and paid attention ONLY to the table with younger diners.

And then you don't tell us the name of the other waiter/waitress in all of WDW who is Perry-level?
. . . Mike (Friday and Saturday breakfast and lunch at Kona)
. . . Tobi (dinner at Turf Club)
. . . CeCe (dinner at HBD)
. . . Ryan (lunch and dinner at Tusker)

NOTE: There are many "good" waiters/waitresses at WDW, but I normally only name those that are SUPERIOR, and make me feel special as a diner. Those are truly hard to come by, and one remembers them well.

Just me - all personal opinion, I'm not right, no one else is wrong.....

LOVED this..... "OK, older folks. No or little tip coming my way. They don't need attention."

Dear whoever... please consider who ACTUALLY HAS MONEY. Think about it.... the 19 year old couple, or the old retired couple? Consider a simple Google demographics search :).

JUST us - 64, and you will have to do a really ROTTEN job to not get us to give you 20% :). I've been in the trade :).

Again, all personal opinion, I'm not right, no one else is wrong.....

Interesting to see so many choose Shula's while Yachtsman has always been one of our favorites and is our preference of the two. Not that Shula's was bad at all, but we just truly enjoyed Yachtsman more.

Well Scupper and Dean Marino, I'm sorry to hear that. After all those years in the restaurant biz, and another 15 in a different but also entirely customer-service based biz (dog grooming), I learned long ago not to judge a book by its cover. You'll be surprised every time if you do. Seems like Perry needs to learn that lesson. Guess that's what we're all here on this earth to do--learn!

Thanks for the dialogue!
