Yachtsman or Artist Point

Both are wonderful. I would say that the food is slightly better at Yachtsman, but I liked the atmosphere at Artist Point more. DH and I had an anniversary dinner at Artist Point about 8 years ago (DD, who was about 8 then, joined). We stayed at WL that year. AP prepared special menus for us and they said "Happy Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. XXXX" along the bottom. I still have the menus and just took a look at them the other day. The service at both restaurants was outstanding. I think DH would prefer Yachtsman because they have great steaks and the portion sizes are large.

I don't think I've done a very good job helping you choose, but I will say that I don't believe you'll be disappointed in either. Have a great time.

I like both, but slightly prefer Artist Point for the more interesting entrees (I'm a big fan of the buffalo and the salmon). Also, their menu is seasonally inspired and changes quite often, even in comparison to some of the other signatures. Yachtsman is also very good. The steak preparations are mostly simple, but the appetizers, desserts, and other entrees have started to become more creative, which I like. Overall, both are in my top 3 Disney restaurants, with Artist Point being my slight favorite overall. :goodvibes

They're both great. I think I may prefer Yachtsman slightly over AP since the entree I had at AP was lacking.

However, as DonaldDoleWhip mentioned, AP has more interesting and creative items with a seasonally inspired menu.

So I'd decide by steak vs. something else. If you feel you will definitely want a steak dinner, go with Yachtsman. But if you want something other than that, I would try AP.

You can't go wrong with either one.

<shrug> What are you looking for in a dining experience? What is the makeup of your party? What are your likes/dislikes?

You may want to read the dining reviews here when trying to decide. :disrocks:

We want a really nice, adult atmosphere to celebrate our Anniversary, our party is 2 adults, I like most anything, DH is very picky but will eat a steak but not seafood.

I was looking at the Filet at Yachtsman, so I think I might go for that. DH was looking at the Bison (I guess it was at AP)

We've eaten at both and they are both awesome :thumbsup2. The atmosphere, IMO, is great at both places as well. If I had to choose between the two, I would probably go with Artist Point. We loved the filet at both restaurants, but Artist Point also has salmon that was amazing. But you really can't go wrong with either one as they are both great dining experiences :).

Yachtsman would be my choice. Better menu, more relaxing atmosphere.

I've been to both many times and enjoy both. I really like the mushroom soup and the buffalo steak at AP (don't know if either or both is still on the menu), but I also enjoy the steaks at Yachtsman. They both have good wine lists, AP's focused more on Wash/Oregon wines and Yachtsman focused on Cal wines. Service at both has been great. I like the decor and atmosphere at Yachtsman better than AP, as I tend to think AP has little or no atmosphere at all (I don't really like how AP seems like one big room, compared to Yachtsman, which is broken up into smaller dining areas).

I don't think you can go wrong with either place.

I prefer the Yachtsman, too. Service and food seem to be a bit better. At Artist Point though, you have to try the Smokey Portobello Soup, it is fantastic!

Both are great, though I will say my preference is for the Yachtsman. Those sweet potato beignets ... Ummm, i so could go for some right now!

We have eaten at both places but prefer Artist Point for the Atmosphere and the incredible service given by Izi who is one of the Waiters. We make it a point to ask for him each time.:cool1: He makes the dining experience a must. The one time we went he was off and we did not enjoy it at all.:sad2: I now know his days off and schedule accordingly. We are heading there in 1 month and cannot wait.:cool1:

That helps a lot. Both restaurants should fit the bill for you. :thumbsup2

We are huge fans of Yachtsman (and I always get the filet) but AP is also good. I'd give the edge to AP since you're celebrating your anniversary since I think the dining room, and the surroundings are a bit more romantic. Allow time to wander through the resort and down along the shore afterwards.

Which ever one you pick, try for a later seating when there will be fewer families with young children. Allow a couple of hours for a nice, leisurely meal, and enjoy a nice glass of wine (or perhaps a specialty beer) while perusing the menu.

Danger! At YSH the pull-apart onion rolls, slathered with roasted garlic and butter are to die for.

Ok, which one should I choose and why? why not?

My first thought was Yachtsman as I think the filet there is exceptional and as other post said, onion rolls are killer. It was a really relaxed meal, you can look at all the steaks aging in the cooler. Plus, it is a nice boat ride to the yacht club.

Then, I read your post about a romantic dinner. I think Artist Point is more romantic. The restaurant is beautiful with high seating, wood with Wilderness lodge theming, high ceilings, and your not on ground floor like at Yachtsman and you might get a seat to see Bay Lake at the geiser. As for the menu, it was a LOT slower than Yachtsman, which didn't work well with children. As for the menu, they had a buffalo filet. It was ok, but not near as good as Yachtsman.

Oh, no now the decision is even harder. I think I need to get DH to sit down and look at the menu to see what he might eat. I think I am still leaning towards Yachtsman, we are staying at BWI.

You can find the steaks and wines at YS anywhere in the world whereas Artist Point's menu and wine list is more unique. After hiring a new chef a year ago, I'd say AP's back on the list of must-do's.

I don't think you'll go wrong either way, but I love AP- another option is flying fish if you're staying at boardwalk and like seafood- the restaurants at the Swolphin are great, too- Bluezoo in particular

Yachtsman - better menu.
Artist Point - better scenery

How about this qualifier? Which is more romantic to you? A nice stroll across the Boardwalk (or boat ride), maybe stopping along the way after dinner for the night entertainment and/or dessert. Or, assuming Disney transportation, a bus ride to MK, and a open boat ride over the water bridge to WL with a walk thru the walkway thru the pine trees.

Both are really great, they are different.

if you want a traditional steakhouse go with Yachtsmen. Ff you want more inventive American cuisine try Artist.

Thank you all so much, we have decided we are going to try Yachtsman this time, there is always next time for Artist Point.
