DH and I have a "date night" planned for Yachtsman while the kids hang out at Simba's cubhouse back at AKL. I had been planning to bring a casual dress that I love but due to a tragic bleach accident, it is no longer an option (note to self...do not leave basket of folded clothes at your feet when pouring bleach in to washer's bleach cup!).

If I bring a pair of nicer capri pants and top (read: an outfit, not denim capris or something) and slide shoes will I be OK or is this still too casual? This outfit is something that I wouldn't wear in the parks during the day. DH is bringing a polo type shirt and nice khaki pants.

That will be perfect!

I have seen everything at YSH from suits and dress to shorts and tshirts (just left the park look). I usually go middle of the road with capris and a top and don't feel out of place at all. When we have gone in July DH has worn khaki shorts with a button down print shirt, and fit right in.

While they say "resort casual", we haven't seen that enforced. I will be checking it out again when I go Thursday.

Even jeans are fine or jean capris. Just leave the beach wear and worn out/holey clothes behind.

yes, you will be fine - in another post I've noted that we see all types of attire at YSH - we go every visit which is 1 - 3 times a year - but I usually wear either a sun dress or capris and a nice top - ds14 wears khakis and a polo shirt - go enjoy!!!!

I just got with what I wear to the resorts that day. I do go back to the hotel and clean/freshen up but I do not change, I am in Disney not a ritszy plce. LOL

DH and I went to the Yachtsman for his birthday dinner. When I made ressies, was given the 'speech' on the dress code. We dressed as instructed and to our amazement, there were jeans, cutoffs, men in tanks with their hairy pits and chests hanging all over the tables, etc. My husband had on dockers and a polo, I had on capris and a tank top. It sort of took the 'special' out of the occasion. I wish Disney would enforce or not enforce, though I think it'd be hard to do. As the dinner hour went on and it got later in the evening, others seemed to dress nicer.
I had also told them I'd like a 'quiet' place to sit and told them why, first table was next to a party of conventioners half snockered and screaming and carrying on (restaurant was quite empty at this point) so I requested a different table-which we got. The meal paled in comparison to the Flying Fish in our opinion, and we're not 'fancy' folks. It was a good meal, but it consisted of scalloped potatoes and your meat. The salad I had was this quarter cut of iceburg lettuce with basalmic vinegar. Yucck.
