Yacht Club vs Polynesian (room size)

We are long time Disney visitors and have stayed mostly at the Polynesian. This fall we are looking at another WDW visit. We can save a fair amount of $$$ staying at the Yacht Club vs our regular jaunt at the Polynesian.

Can anyone comment on room size between the two? We are 6 total (4 kids) and just fit in the Poly. I want to make sure that the Yaght club isn't smaller than Poly. That would probably be a deal killer. I'm also expecting the BC/YC pools to be a little warmer than the Poly. This was the case when we visited in April this year.

We have stayed at both the Poly and the YC a few times and find the rooms (just the regular rooms) to be about the same size, the YC bathroom is nicer tho

I've never stayed at the Yacht Club, but had always heard that the Polynesian has some of the largest standard rooms on property. The below is taken from allears.net:

The average room at the Yacht Club is 380 sq. ft. The average room at the Yacht Club is 380 sq. ft. Most rooms feature two queen-size beds, a table and chairs, color TV w/remote, a ceiling fan, double sinks in the dressing area, and refrigerator. Some rooms have a daybed that will accommodate the maximum 5 guests allowed per room at the Yacht Club

Typical rooms at the Polynesian are 409 square feet. A standard room at the Polynesian includes two queen-size beds, a day bed, an armoire, a very small table (plus a table that rolls out from under the desk), and two chairs (some rooms have only 1 upholstered chair plus an ottoman; some rooms have 2 chairs). Typical rooms are 409 square feet and have a maximum occupancy of five persons, plus one child under the age of 3. All rooms come equipped with an iron, ironing board, small refrigerator and a hair dryer.

We've stayed at the Polynesian many times as a family of five. Also had a few stays at BC as our children grew up. From everything I've read, the YC rooms are the same size as BC. We always felt quite crowded moving from the Polynesian to the BC. I can't imagine it with 6 including a crib I guess?:confused3

The Polynesian rooms are either 415 sq ft or 476 according to a pm Tikiman sent me years ago. If you are used to staying in Tokelau, Tahiti or Rapa Nui which are the larger rooms, you will certainly feel cramped at the YC.

Love the Y&BC as well as the Polynesian but the room size really is smaller.

Oh, and as MickeyNicki was saying, the bathrooms are different too. At the YC, it's a split bath with two sinks outside the room with the tub and toilet. Convenient but not as sanitary IMO.

Exactly what I thought. I had read somewhere that Poly had the largest rooms, and we are tokelau all the way so some of the biggest "on property".

We are mom, dad, dd 10, dd 7, ds 4 & dd 2 and we've always managed, but we've been feeling cramped the last few years. This past April we stayed BC Villa's 2 bedroom and just loved it (kind of a DVC trial of sorts), but paying rack rate stunk. This fall there just isn't choice in the schedule and it's an $800.00 difference in the trip. So I'm debating the value of the 20sq ft.

Thanks for the input.

WE can attest to the fact that the YC rooms are smaller than the Polynesian ones, I think the main difference in room is between the bed by the balcony and the table area/daybed. It always seems a little cramped at YC on that side of the room.

YC is definitely a smaller room (at least those we've experienced) than the Polynesian. Further, we have two grown kids and therefore needed a daybed. During our visits, we were not assigned a room with a daybed and no room for a rollaway. We were not lucky enough to change rooms for one that afforded a daybed either. Not a great way to start your vacation. . .thankfully, the stay here was brief.

I will agree with the other post above, I do like the bathroom area better than some of the rooms at the Polynesian, i.e., double sinks.

I had read somewhere that Poly had the largest rooms, and we are tokelau all the way so some of the biggest "on property".

Actually, Shades of Green's standard rooms are the largest at 480 square feet, but not everyone has access. The Poly and the Contemporary standard rooms are both larger than other WDW deluxe resorts.

Roveer, from what I've read, if you are a Tokelau regular, the difference is not 20 SF - it's almost 100 SF, because Tokelau rooms (like Tahiti) are bigger than in other Poly buildings. Tokelau rooms are 476 SF; YC are 380. Someone can correct me if I've misstated ... but it sounds like your family might need the bigger space??

We've stayed at both and the YC rooms are smaller - they felt noticeable smaller and tighter. We like the bathroom layout at YC better, but DH does love the extra room at the Poly. We weren't even in the extra large rooms at the Polynesian (we stayed in Samoa).
