Hello everyone! I am currently planning a six day trip with a group (8 adults total) during late September (before the 50th Anniversary crowd arrives). When the summer offer started, we booked two water view double queen rooms at the Yacht Club. Now, however, a two room villa at the Riviera Resort is available for around the same price.

We like the theming and location of the Yacht Club (proximity to the parks and several dining/bar options at the Boardwalk). On the other hand, the Riviera have much larger (including three showers) and very modern rooms, good dining options, and the Skyliner seems very convenient for our plans.

What do you think are my pros and cons? What would you recommend? I have read previous posts, but most of them had children in mind and SAB seemed like a VERY attractive amenity. We are mostly going to the parks once, and to the Food and Wine twice. We may go to the pool once, but is not a defining factor.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Last 4th of July we were scheduled to be in at the Yacht Club in 2 rooms and were moved by Disney to 2 rooms at Riviera. We then asked to be put in a 2 bedroom villa and Disney moved us to the 2 bedroom and we loved it. While we love the Yacht Club...we really love the Riviera. We have stayed now at Riviera many times since opening and have stayed in every room type with the exception of the Grand Villa, and must say that the rooms are so much better than the Yacht Club. My wife and I are 49 and 47 and we have been with our young professionals quite a few times (26, 24, 23) and they would tell you the Riviera hands down and I think it is because the staff there seems younger to all of us.

So Pros

Pros for Riviera
Riviera has nicer rooms
2 bedroom space and layout is incredible
Skyliner
Topolinos

Pros for Yacht Club
SAB is incredible
Love walking around the Boardwalk...and when everything is open there is a ton of options for food and entertainment
Walk to Epcot or Hollywood

Don't really have any cons...you really can't go wrong with either choice.

Never been to Riviera but people seem to love the rooms. It always comes down to personal preference. We like boardwalk resort locations because you can walk to two parks, and my kids usually like to add an evening visit to WS. What is more important to you? A brand new location or a convenient location?

8 adults and only two bathrooms would be a non-starter for us. I would opt for the 2BR at RIV for that reason alone.

I agree with PP that both choices are great. I've stayed in both and I lean more towards Riviera.

One area it wins out is the amount of closet/storage space in a two bedroom villa. Riv has 4 big closets in the dedicated 2 bedroom (three in a lock-off I think) plus the laundry closet. Having three showers in the Riv 2 bedroom is so convenient too. The full kitchen and washer dryer are great.

I really like their quick service compared to Yacht/Beach. The coffee shop and pool bar are great too.

The Skyliner is great but YC edges it out there being able to walk to Epcot (and HS if you like)

Is the 2BR at Riviera a lock-off or dedicated? A dedicated 2BR has 1 king bed, 2 queen beds, and 1 murphy bed in LR, plus the small twin for kids (assume not needed). The lock-off has 1 king, 1 queen and murphy in 2nd BR, and murphy in LR. Yacht would give you 2 queens and a fold out twin in each room. For our family with adult kids it comes down to sleeping surfaces and bathrooms. Riv wins on the bathrooms and overall space but Yacht probably wins on the number of beds, depending on the makeup of your party (couples vs. singles).

Not sure of the relationship between the 8 adults but in 2 separate 2Q rooms everyone has equal sleeping space. But how will you divide up the sleeping arrangements in a 2BR? The 2BR at Riviera has a very nice layout, but some people will still be on sofabeds or murphy beds vs Q or K which seems unequal IF you are all chipping in the same price. If you like the idea of a kitchen and laundry to share, I would try to swing the Grand Villa, unless some of you are willing to trade bedspace for those amenities. I also give the location edge to YC.
