I love everyones photos!
Yes, we payed for a water view room. Because this room didn't suit our needs at all (it had a king bed which is slightly awkward for mother and son, it was very far from the elevators which is a pain for my mother who can barely walk, etc), we asked to be moved. They couldn't move us until the next day because the resort was at capacity. We were hoping to be moved to a room closer to the elevators and with a lake view.
We got the lake view, but there were construction workers on our side of the building. There were cranes and piles of dirt blocking our view of the lake, and there were construction workers painting the building exterior...which they had to do on our balcony. The noise from 9-5 was absolutely terrible, and my mother is usually in the room during the day because of her medical condition. So she couldn't even get rest. Plus, in order to have some privacy from our balcony-goers, we basically had to keep the curtains closed, keeping the room pitch black at all times and meaning we barely got to see our water view. Personally, I would have been much more forgiving about the whole thing if there had been any notication from the resort about the ongoing construction. The boat dock was closed, we couldn't even see our water view, the least they could have done was send an email in advance about the construction. They always do that when the pool is closed, as far as I know, and this should be no different. As a family that actually spends time in our room instead of racing across the parks all day, this was our most dissapointing trip since...our last trip to the Beach Club. We won't be back.
It's a shame, because there's so much I like about the place. The Boardwalk area, the pool, the marketplace, Hurricane Hanna's, the decor, and access to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. But these repeated issues are something that nobody could predict until they actually happen.
And for the record, I've heard that any room at YC/BC that overlooks the smallest bit of water/pool is counted as a water view. In my opinion, lake view and pool view should be separate categories, considering the dramatic difference between overlooking the tranquil lake or the noisy, chaotic pool...and then there should be a discount for that abominable roof view.
We did speak to a guest services manager at the resort about it. Ironically it was her choice to move us right in front of the construction (we didn't know about it at the time), which was the worst possible thing they could've done to someone who stays in the room almost all day and needs more rest than the average park-commando guest."Slightly awkward" is an understatement. You should never have been treated like that when the mistake was theirs. Since it was at full capacity, they should have offered to accommodate you at the YC or BWI. I can understand why you won't be back. Just curious, did you ever send off an email to WDW Guest Relations?
We stayed at the YC/CL last year and we thought we'd try the BC Deluxe room this year, but we just changed our reservation to the YC/CL. I just could not risk having painters and cranes in front our balcony and the BC CL lounge and lobby have been sounding way too chaotic for our tastes. I feel much better now that I've changed to the YC. I don't even miss giving-up that Deluxe room. So would you ever consider returning to the YC?
I believe I read on the BC/YC thread that the BC is in the process or will be in the process of reclassifying some room views. Hopefully, for future guests, they will more appropriately classify the water views.
Thanks for posting your experience and I hope your next trip works out much better.
Those pictures are phenomenal!
Thank you so much for sharing them!
Looking at the first few, it looks like some of the villas have standing room only balconies - is that true?
Thank you for that picture, bellebookworm9.
Doesn't look like any of the rooms at the villas, with the exception of that small space around what looks to be a pool, have much of a view, eh?
Is there any area of the villas that is considered better than others as far as requests are concerned? Not that I REALLY care - just glad we'll be there!
Awesome pics! Can't wait to he there in 72 days!
Thanks for posting.
