XXI Olympic Winter Olympics Games Thread

I loved Davis & White, they were incredible.

I liked them too and like them even more knowing they are Wolverines. haha

I wish Belbin and Agosto would have won a medal. :sad2:

As for the medals themselves, I think they're cool. Even the ones from Torino were kind of cool.

Did anybody else hear that Evan Lysacek is dating Nastia Liukin???? They just said something on the news and there was an article on nbcolympics.com too.

Hey, hockey fans in the US don't call NBC "Nothing But Crosby" for nothing! ;) But personally I'd prefer that the commentators not be "homers".

But to your subject, check out this comparison of the play-by-play from NBC and CTV from last night's game.

What was the difference? NBC won't let me see the video because I live in Canada.

This seems to be a trend. Even Tiffany & Co has several pieces of "wavy" jewelry.

I heard they are wavy to represent the waves of the Pacific Ocean and the wavy tops of the Mountains. They are also the 'greenest' medals ever made partially comprised of gold, silver and bronze components made from recycled computers.

I think they are modern and kind of cool...JMO

And Tiffany have long had wavy styles of jewellry. Elsa Peretti bought that to them years back...

I like the medals as well. I think that it's pretty cool that they are each a one of a kind. I read that each medal winner is also going to get a silk scarf that has the entire design on it. They will be able to see where their medal fits in. Pretty cool! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info about Tiffany. The first one that I saw was 2 years ago when I bought one for my DD. She loves it and has gotten many compliments of it.

Sorry you can't see it... bummer. NBC's team in the booth is basically the same guys (Mike Emrick, Mike Milbury, Eddie Olczyk) they use for NBC's nationally telecast NHL Game of the Week. Being a national broadcast they tend to be more even-keeled instead of being Homers. This was true of their coverage of the Canada vs. USA match. The excitement of Emrick's voice was the same regardless of who scored, whereas the CTV crew were being more Homerish. CTV was also being more critical of the play of Brodeur. This isn't to say that one coverage was "better" or "worse" than the other, but one appeared to cover the event as fans of the sport and the other was like listening to your favorite team's play-by-play guy.

I love Mike Emrick. He was (and might still be) the play by play guy for the Devils, so I was lucky enough to hear him for a bunch of games each season and to say "Hi" to him at the arena many times. He always gets excited over a great play, and will throw in the funniest comments-you have to listen really closely.

Sheesh! If the Russian guy had hoisted the Russian chick up by her waist ropes one more time, I'd have thought he was under the impression he was getting extra points for the move. :lmao: I counted at least FOUR times that he used the ropes instead of actually lifting her, etc. :headache:

Hmmm......Maybe next time the Americans can get smart and use tiny jet packs on their skates to gain some speed. :rotfl2: Or a hydraulic lift for extra height if the girl is more than a waif. Yeah.....that sounds like a plan. :rotfl: :thumbsup2

BTW, does anyone else think those warped Olympic medals are just about the ugliest ones ever? :scared1:

I heard several sportscasters intimate that the rules would be changed next year to make those kinds of costumes illegal.

I hate the medals too. If you go back in the thread to the first few pages, I crabbed about how ugly the medals are. Even posted a pic of a warped LP!

Did anybody else hear that Evan Lysacek is dating Nastia Liukin???? They just said something on the news and there was an article on nbcolympics.com too.

Interesting! I would've sworn up and down that he was gay. Guess not. I think he's freakin' adorable, and he and Nastia would make a cute couple.

Thanks, that must be a first for NBC at the Olympics, non-homerish announcers. ;)

I like MIke Emrick, he is an excellent play by play guy and has a great voice as well.

Speaking of the Olympics, what ever happened to some of the stars of the past?

For example, I thought SOMEONE would mention Torvill and Dean, when they were showing the ice dancing last night. Their performance of Ravel's "Bolero" in the 1984 Games was truly unforgettable, and scored 12 perfect 6.0's.

Or how about Alberto Tomba, Italian skiier from the 1988 Games?

Katerina Witt, figure skater from Germany?

I always wondered about that, but apparently he and Tanith dated for quite a while.

Katerina Witt was in the crowd last night. She is on DH's "LIST", lol.

Regarding Evan: I heard that he was dating Nastia Liuken also. DH is convinced all male figure skaters are gay. I recently watched Blades of Glory with DD12 and she was like "this is GAY!" and now that is all I think about whenever I see these guys skate, lol. They may not all be gay of course, but how can you NOT be and wear some of those costumes? Most guys wouldn't be caught dead in stuff like that. It has kinda ruined it for me, to be honest. I have no problems with homosexuality, and I think they are talented and athletic, but I just am not impressed with the "sport" aspect. I'm way more interested in snowboarding and hockey. Those guys who did the biathlon have my respect... man, they looked like they were sucking some major wind! That takes some physical training. Ice dancing? Yes, those guys are athletic but the competition is about reputation, kissing up to the judges and costumes. I still like to watch it but I'm more excited about hockey.

I love the medals this year. They're unique and beautiful. :thumbsup2

Same here! Huh.

On a random note, I think it sucks that I vividly remember when Nastia's dad, Valeri, was competing in the Olympics himself. God, I feel old.

Did anyone else notice that the American speed skating uniforms made everyone look like Frozone from the Incredibles?

Didn't that guy turn out to be something of a train wreck? He was supposed to be this big hot shot skier, and he was like...FAIL. Like Bode Miller at the last games.

Oh and here's Torvill and Dean! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2zbbN4OL98

Katerina Witt was in the crowd last night. She looked different for some reason.

That must be the difference of CTV coverage because they did show those skaters before the last three did their skate.

I stayed up late to watch the ice dance skaters. So proud of our young Canadian skaters they did a great job on all there dances.

Yeah...NBC skunked us viewers on the T&D routine. Thank goodness for youtube!
