Does anyone know if they xray your luggage at the port? I will be taking alot of film and it doesn't all fit in my camera bag. I was going to pack it in my suitcase, but I don't know if it will be safe. Also, do you lock your luggage or will they break the lock if you do? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Your carry ons go thru the same sort of scanner that the airports use. I know that your checked luggage is sniffed by drug and explosive dogs (they used to have a dog checking you carry-ons too, but that was gone on our last cruise), but I've never had anything opened. Your luggage will be "dog sniffed" again in customs before you claim it.

if they decide they need to look in your luggage they will break the lock and relock it with a nylon zip-lock

I do believe checked bags go through x-ray machine. I've read of others that have had items (like diving knives) taken from their luggage.

One of checks bags was very late being delivered to our cabin. I know they had searched the bag because I had a small pocket knife, a lighter, and a corkscrew inside a bag with my toiletries in the suitcase. When I openned the bag all three of these items were sitting on top of everything else. My guess is the corkscrew triggered the search when it was x-rayed.

The general concensus is DON'T pack any film in your checked luggage. The x-ray machines they use to check the luggage is very strong and you risk the possibilty of your film being ruined. It is safer to put it in your carry on... You can ask to have it hand checked so it's not exposed to the x-ray machines

BTW, How much film are you bringing if it won't all fit in your carry on???

No, you shouldn't lock your luggage as previous posters mentioned, the agents will have to cut your locks off if needed

Thank you for all the information. I will carry my film on and have it hand checked. I sure don't want to risk messing up our vacation pics. I also won't lock our luggage. Just in case. Thanks again everyone.

When the trip is over be sure not to "ruin" your film by using cheap photo processing like Costco's "Kirkland" processing. Pay the extra money for the Kodak premium processing. It seems like a lot more money but the way the prints come out is way, way, way, way, way worth it!

I have been using the new Kodak Perfect Touch processing. I am very pleased with it. It cost a little more but it gets out the majority of the red eye and just makes the pictures better. I get it done at Target.

Yipee..We leave today!!!!
